Video: Feeling Ducky: Derby Duck Raises Money for Zelienople Park

The Connoquenessing Creek saw an invasion of a new breed of bird on Saturday ... the yellow rubber duckie.

As Ernie from Sesame Street might have said, “Rubber duckie, you're the one” -- or this case won.

On Saturday, members of the Friends of the Zelienople-Harmony Park, a nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing Community Park in Zelienople, gathered to launch nearly 1,000 yellow rubber duckies from a bridge over Connoquenessing Creek.

The ducks journeyed down the creek to the canoe launch area off Halstead Boulevard. The owner of the first duck to cross into a collection tube won $1,000. The second-place winner received $500, and the third-place finisher received $250.

It cost $10 to enter a duck in the competition. All race proceeds will be used for repairs to the park.
