New Route 19, Ehrman Road Traffic Signal Readying to Go Live

The signal is located in front of the Sheetz now under construction at the intersection.

After close to a year in the making, the new traffic signal at the intersection of Route 19 and Ehrman Road is set to go live later this week. Jason Kratsas, Cranberry’s director of engineering, said PennDOT is expected to put the signal into flash mode on Thursday, May 16. Kratsas said the signal would flash in yellow for motorists on Route 19. For those traveling along Ehrman Road, the signal will flash red.   “It’s just a warning cycle to show people that a new signal is coming in,” he said. The signal should be fully operational by Wednesday, May 22. The addition of the signal caps off months of planning and construction for the traffic poles, including several delays. The traffic signal in Cranberry is one of the first to be tested …

Route 19, Ehrman Road Traffic Lanes to Reopen Next Week

Up next for the intersection is a traffic signal, plus a new Sheetz gas station and convenience store.

There’s good news for motorists heading north on Route 19—the right traffic lane near Ehrman Road should be reopen by next week. “As soon as the guide rails are up, the lanes will open back up,” said Jason Kratsas, Cranberry’s director of engineering. Working with Sheetz, which is building a new convenience store and gas station in the area, the township is adding a traffic signal at the intersection of Route 19 and Ehrman Road. The hillside where the Sheetz will be located already has been graded so that the gas station will be at street level with Ehrman Road.  Kratsas has said developers would contribute about $600,000 for the traffic signal and road project, which will be managed by the township. Cranberry will fund about $300,000 for …

Follow the Arrow: New Traffic Pattern a Go at Route 19 Intersection

As a result of an increase in traffic accidents, motorists will have to wait for a green arrow before turning left at the intersection with North Boundary and Glen Eden roads.

Starting Wednesday, motorists on Route 19 in Cranberry will no longer be able to make left turns onto Glen Eden or North Boundary roads without a green arrow to guide them. Prior to Aug. 8, northbound traffic on Route 19 was permitted to make a left turn at the traffic signal onto Glen Eden Road if there was a green light. The same went for southbound traffic on the highway turning left at the same traffic signal onto North Boundary Road. In both scenarios, drivers with a green light would yield to oncoming traffic. No longer. In response to an increase in accidents at the intersection over the last year and a half, drivers will now be prohibited—as indicated by a red light—from turning left unless a green left arrow is showing. “…

Walt, that particular intersection isn't solely an issue of bad drivers. There is a steep grade to North Boundary approaching Rt 19. If you are on Glen Eden and turning onto Rt 19 north, it is very difficult to see cars approaching from North Boundary. Likewise, of you are coming from North Boundary and going straight into Glen Eden, you cannot see those cars turning onto 19 until you are into …   more ›

Traffic Signal in the Works for Intersection of Route 19 and Ehrman Road

The project has long been in the planning stage.

After years in the making, plans are moving forward for a traffic signal at the intersection of Route 19 and Ehrman Road in Cranberry. “It’s been on our capital improvement plan for probably eight years,” said township manager Jerry Andree. Officials are expected to authorize the township to go out for bid on the traffic signal at Thursday's Board of Supervisors meeting. Andree said adding a traffic signal at Ehrman Road—which leads to the Ehrman Farms neighborhood—has long been a popular idea with township residents. He noted there have been several car accidents at the intersection over the years, although no fatalities. “It’s one of the most requested signals,” he said. Plans for the signal stalled, however, because of design issues …

This topic is generating a good discussion on the Cranberry Patch Facebook page. Stacey Hurbanek said "Thank God! It's been requested for years." Summer Fowler likes the planned addition, but she and several others also would like to see a traffic signal at the intersection of Route 19 and Glen Eden Road. What are your thoughts? New Traffic Signal Lights Up Freedom Road

The signal at the intersection of Freedom Road and Haldeman Drive goes into flash mode today.

Another ruby-colored traffic post is lighting up Cranberry.  The new traffic signal at Freedom Road and Haldeman Drive will be turned on to flash mode today, according to PennDOT District 10. It is expected to be fully operational on Thursday.  The signal is part of a $1.52 million project to widen Freedom Road from Haine School Road to Haldeman Drive and make other improvements. Construction kicked off in July and took place in the evenings. The work included widening Freedom Road from two to three lanes, installing the new traffic signal system and upgrading intersection safety. One of the township's busiest corridors, Freedom Road has a traffic volume of about 25,566 vehicles per day. It was most recently paved in 1997, according to the…
