Registration is still open for the training camp with the Steelers quarterback.
The third time is a charm for Ben Roethlisberger. The Steelers quarterback is returning to Seneca Valley to host a youth football training camp for boys and girls ages 7 to 14 at the district's NexTier Stadium. Roethlisberger also hosted camps at the high school in 2011 and 2012. This year’s camp will take place from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. June 17-18. The cost is $199 per kid. Roethlisberger, who will be joined by a selection of the top prep and college coaches at the camp, also will give daily talks highlighting the finer points of the game of football and beyond. And you never know who may show up to join him. Last year, the Steelers' Brett Keisel tossed footballs and coached mini-games for campers. Backup quarterback Charlie Batch and …

Cheered on by fans, celebrity "shearers" clipped the Steelers defensive end's famous facial hair to benefit the cancer program at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC. Check out the videos of some of the action NOT seen on TV.
Perhaps WDVE’s Randy Baumann said it best. “Only in Pittsburgh would this many people turn out to see a guy shave,” he told a cheering crowd of black-and-gold-clad patrons at Jergel’s Rhythm Grille in Warrendale Thursday. Then again, he wasn’t referring to lopping off just any old beard. For the third year in a row, the Steelers’ Brett Keisel, who resides in the Cranberry area, shaved off his fearsome facial hair as part of the “Shear Da Beard” event to benefit the cancer programs at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC. Chris Gessner, president of Children’s Hospital, said the event has raised close to $100,000 for cancer programs in the last few years. “He’s really become somewhat of a hero,” he said of Keisel. “His beard is kind of…

Do we root against Ray Lewis, whose career with the Baltimore Ravens has angered Yinzers for 17 years, or do we root against the 49ers so they don’t match the Steelers with six Super Bowl titles?
Judgment Day has come for Yinzers across Steeler Nation in Super Bowl XLVII. Do we root against Ray Lewis, whose career with the Baltimore Ravens has angered Yinzers for 17 years, or do we root against the 49ers so they don’t match the Steelers with six Super Bowl titles? It’s a tough choice. Lewis, one of the greatest linebackers in NFL history, has a torrid history with the law after he was arrested on murder charges in 2000. Those charges were eventually dropped and Lewis pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice. But what might stick in the craw of every Pittsburgher is when Lewis mocked Joey Porter’s kick celebration in 2003. Porter, the former Steelers linebacker who was injured after being shot earlier in that year, thought Lewis was…

Ugh, tough decision. Is having a Ray Lewis win or allowing the 49ers to match Pittsburgh in Super Bowl rings the lesser of two hard choices? We’ll let you decide.
We know, we know, it’s hard for Steelers fans to root for any team that isn’t theirs in the Super Bowl—especially when one of those teams is the Ravens. Still, either Baltimore or the San Francisco 49ers has to win Sunday’s big game in New Orleans. And we want to know, is it better to give the win to the Ravens and Ray Lewis (shudder) or the Niners. If the Ravens win, well, no true Steelers fan wants that to happen. It also would give the legendary linebacker Lewis—he of the murder trial and now deer antler spray controversy—a final win before he retires. Can you say yuck? Ray-Ray, now that you’re retiring, can you promise we’ll never have to see you dance to “Hot in Herre” when you step on the field at M&T Bank Stadium ever again? On …

The defensive end will shave off his famous facial hair to benefit the cancer program at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh UPMC.
While the Steelers’ Brett Keisel is known for his fearsome facial hair, he doesn’t have a problem shaving it off for a good cause. For the third year in a row, the star defensive end, who resides in the Cranberry area, will “Shear Da Beard” at the annual Mountain Man Makeover to benefit the cancer programs at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh UPMC. And residents won't have to travel far to see it. This year’s event takes place at Jergel’s Rhythm Grille in Warrendale on Thursday, Feb. 7. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the beard shaving takes place at 7 p.m. Pittsburgh legend Donnie Iris and former Poverty Neck Hillbilly Chris Higbee are both scheduled to perform at the event. Keisel also recently hinted on air with the WDVE morning team that…

Local stars Brett Keisel, Troy Polamalu and of course Charlie Batch search for the “true meaning of the season” in this Charlie Brown parody.
As the playoffs draw closer, Pittsburgh’s favorite backup quarterback is searching for the true “meaning of the season” this Christmas—at least on YouTube. A new parody of the classic A Charlie Brown Christmas features "Peanuts"-inspired versions of some of your favorite Pittsburgh Steelers from Patch communities, including Brett Keisel (Cranberry area) and Troy Polamalu (Pine). The video stars Homestead's Charlie Batch, who asks a beard-petting Keisel as well as new father Ben Roethlisberger to help him find the true meaning of the Steelers season. “The playoffs season is coming up and this whole team has stopped believing,” the Batch character complains. The parody also features a thumb-sucking Mike Wallace and Polamalu as piano-playing …

The veteran linebacker will be at the store signing autographs.
Those hoping to learn more about the Pittsburgh Steelers football season from a Steeler himself should head to the Giant Eagle in Cranberry this weekend. Veteran linebacker Larry Foote will be at the store on Route 19 in the Cranberry Mall from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8 to meet with fans and sign autographs. Foote’s appearance at the store is part of a partnership between the Steelers, Giant Eagle and Pepsi that gives customers and fans alike an opportunity to interact and meet with their favorite players. Foote is no stranger to Cranberry. He also appeared at the grand opening of the new Dick’s Sporting Goods on Route 228 in October to sign autographs. What questions would you like to ask Larry Foote? How do you think the Steelers will…

The Steelers linebacker signs autographs at the store. Plus, what is happening to the former Dick’s location?
They came. They saw. They shopped. The new Dick’s Sporting Goods in the Cranberry Crossroads retail center on Route 228 officially opened at 8 a.m. Friday with a ribbon cutting ceremony featuring Cranberry Township Supervisor Chairman Bruce Mazzoni. Shoppers lined the entrance of the store to receive gift cards ranging from $5 to $500. Later on Friday, another line wrapped around the second floor of the building, this time to see Steelers linebacker Larry Foote, who signed autographs from 6 to 8 p.m. Among the first in line were Cranberry residents Kevin and Mandi Yeager and their 12-year-old son, Aaron, who wore his Seneca Valley football jersey. The family had Foote sign a football, an NFL helmet and a mini-helmet. Foote also inquired …

A Brookline man was arrested Thursday, accused of attempting to extort money from retired Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward, multiple news sources are reporting. Police charged Joshua Roberts Van Auker, 26, on Thursday with two counts of criminal attempt, court documents show. According to WTAE, Van Auker sent a text message on Wednesday, Oct. 17 to Ward's personal assistant indicating that if he did not receive money, Van Auker would either sell or release materials alleging Ward paid women for sex. Van Auker also demanded $15,000, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, telling Ward through his assistant, "It's called buying silence, brother." The assistant contacted investigators the same day to report Van Auker was …

Severely burned in a fire at his Seven Fields townhouse last year, the running backs coach talks to ESPN's Josina Anderson about that night—and making his way back to the football field.
Just 48 hours before the Pittsburgh Steelers Wildcard playoffs loss to the Denver Broncos in January, a fire broke out in the kitchen of Kirby Wilson’s townhome in Seven Fields. A veteran running backs coach with the Steelers, Wilson suffered second- and third-degree burns on almost half of his body from the flames. He also had lung damage from a smoke-inhalation injury. Three months later, Wilson, who initially was put into a medically induced coma, was returning to Steelers headquarters to participate in the NFL draft. By the time training camp rolled around in July, he was jogging up and down the sidelines with his players. On Sunday, Wilson opened up about his recovery to ESPN’s Josina Anderson. Also speaking to Anderson in that …
