Under clear, sunny skies, thousands of people took to the streets of Pittsburgh Sunday to join the March of Dimes' "March For Babies." The 3.5-mile walk kicked off on Art Rooney Avenue, coursing into PNC Park and across the 16th Street Bridge to Penn Avenue before finishing across the Clemente Bridge in front of PNC Park. The March of Dimes aims to give babies a healthy start by raising money through the march to support research and programs that aid healthy, full-term pregnancies, according to the website. Participants converged on the North Shore from all over the area, including Sewickley, Ross, Moon and Cranberry, to support the cause. Five finalists in the Cranberry CUP Home Run Derby get their chance to hit it out of the park — PNC Park that is.
On Sunday afternoon the five finalists in the Cranberry CUP Home Run Derby — Mike Hutchinson, Sam Carmella, Marty Kohler, Craig Gehm and Bill Och — each took their turn at PNC Park's home plate with a 10-out allowance. After being named Derby champion, Mike Hutchinson won a trip to join the Pittsburgh Pirates during 2012 spring training in Bradenton, FL. Cranberry CUP, which stands for Community Uniting People, raises money to support local families in need. This year’s beneficiary is the O’Donnell family of Cranberry. A social studies teacher in the Keystone Oaks School District and a father of four, Shawn O’Donnell was diagnosed with colon and liver cancer in May.

The Cranberry CUP Homerun Derby finals have been rescheduled to be played after the 1:35 p.m. Pittsburgh Pirates game Sunday at PNC Park. The derby was supposed to be played Sept. 5 at PNC Park, but the game was rained out. Spectators who also are interested in watching the Pirates play the Cincinnati Reds Sunday may purchase tickets from the Cranberry CUP website. The seats are to be in the same section of the park. This the first time the CUP’s annual softball home run derby will be played at PNC Park. After a preliminary round earlier in September, six people qualified to participate in the final round at PNC Park. The winner of Sunday’s derby will win a trip to see the Pirates play at their 2012 training camp in Bradenton, FL. The …

The injured Cranberry police officer and the emergency workers who helped save his life are honored at a Pirates game.
On Tuesday at PNC Park the Pittsburgh Pirates and West Penn Allegheny Health System honored a group of local heroes for their "Great Saves." In February, Cpl. Dan Hahn of the Cranberry Township police department suffered life-threatening injuries after falling over a 20-foot high wall while pursuing a suspect after a chase. A crew from Harmony EMS quickly arrived at the scene, providing oxygen and starting IVs before a medical helicopter arrived to take Hahn to Allegheny General Hospital on Pittsburgh’s North Side, At Tuesday's Pirates game, Hahn was reunited with the three paramedics and one emergency medical technician who helped save his life. Injured Cranberry officer to thank Harmony EMS crew who helped save his life.
Cpl. Dan Hahn of the Cranberry Township police department suffered life-threatening injuries when he fell over a 20-foot high wall while pursuing a suspect on Feb. 14. A crew from Harmony EMS quickly arrived at the scene, providing oxygen and starting IVs before a LifeFlight helicopter arrived to take Hahn to Allegheny General Hospital on Pittsburgh’s North Side, hospital spokeswoman Stephanie Waite said in a statement. Tonight, Hahn, who is recovering from his injuries, and the EMS workers will be honored at Pittsburgh's PNC Park prior to the 7 p.m. Pirates-Milwakee Brewers game as part of West Penn Allegheny Health System and the Pirates “Great Saves” program.
