After claiming the WPIAL Class AAAA Championship last week, the Seneca Valley baseball team fell to the Altoona Lions in the first round of the PIAA playoffs Monday night. The Lions posted a 9-4 victory over the Raiders at Pullman Park in Butler. Seneca Valley elected not to start Matt Smith, who was the winning pitcher in the WPIAL title game, according to MSA Sports. Player Austin Bream was 3 for 4, and Zach Creedon was 2 for 3 for the Raiders, MSA Sports reports. Senior pitcher Zach Detillio took the loss for the Seneca Valley. The Raiders end their season at 18-5. With last week’s win, Seneca Valley earned back-to-back WPIAL titles. The Raiders last year came within a game of reaching the PIAA Class AAAA final.
