Mission Accomplished: Injured Cranberry Police Officer Cpl. Dan Hahn Returns to Duty

Critically injured in a car chase almost two years ago, the Cranberry police officer says returning to work was his goal throughout his recovery.

Injured almost two years ago in a car chase that nearly claimed his life, Cranberry Police Cpl. Dan Hahn spent months in physical therapy, first wheeling, then learning how to walk again. On some days, the pain was intolerable, Hahn said. But supported by his wife, family, friends and fellow officers, he kept one goal in mind—returning to police work. Mission accomplished. On Monday, Hahn returned to the police force on a part-time basis. Taking on administrative duties three days a week, for four hours a day, Hahn, 49, said he hopes to one day work full-time again, and maybe even get behind the wheel of a patrol car. “That’s kind of where I want to be, back on the road,” he said. Hahn was seriously injured after falling more than 20 feet …

Catching Up with Cpl. Dan Hahn: Positive Attitude is Everything

The recovering Cranberry police officer and his wife, Fritz, talk about life after February's devastating accident

Each day when Cpl. Dan Hahn wakes up, usually in pain, he makes a conscious decision to get through the day with an upbeat attitude.  "Having a positive attitude is a decision to make," he said. "You can choose to be down." Aiding the injured Cranberry police officer on his long path to recovery is his wife, Fritz Hahn. Hahn credits her with keeping him strong. "I have her to keep me straight," he said. "If I have a bad day, she's always upbeat." Hahn was seriously injured five months ago after falling more than 20 feet from a highway overpass following a high-speed car chase that began in Sewickley Hills and ended on Interstate 79 in Jackson Township. The driver of the car jumped from an overpass in an effort to elude police from multiple…

'He's One of Our Guys': Blood Drive for Cranberry Officer a Success

Dozens of people turned out to donate blood in honor of Cpl. Dan Hahn on Thursday.

It wasn’t the first time Dave Mack has gotten his arm pinched in the name of a good cause, but Thursday’s blood drive at the Cranberry Township Municipal Center in honor of Cpl. Dan Hahn held special meaning for him. “He’s one of our guys,” said Mack, a volunteer with the Cranberry Township Fire Company, just before it was his turn to donate. “We know Cpl. Danny Hahn really well.” Hahn, a veteran Cranberry Township police officer, was injured last month after a high-speed car chase that started in Sewickley Heights and involved police from a half-dozen police departments. The chased ended on Interstate 79 in Jackson Township after the driver, Thomas Booth, got out of his car and jumped over a highway overpass in an attempt to escape police…

Outpouring of Support for Injured Cranberry Officer

The Cranberry Township Police Department is accepting donations for Cpl. Dan Hahn and his family.

As Cranberry Police Cpl. Dan Hahn slowly recovers from serious injuries to his neck and back after falling more than 20 feet from an overpass on Interstate 79, someone from the township constantly is by his side. Sometimes, said township Manager Jerry Andree, it’s Jeff Schueler, Cranberry’s director of public safety. Other times, it’s police Lt. Kevin Meyer. Andree also has been to Hahn’s bedside to give him support. “There always is someone from the township there,” Andree said. On Monday, Thomas William Booth, 22, of Volant, led police on a high-speed chase that spanned two counties and involved five police departments before ending in Jackson Township. After Jackson Township police deployed spikes on the highway to slow Booth’s vehicle…
