Cranberry Area Weather: Hurricane Sandy Flood Watch Now a Flood Warning

High wind warning is also in effect.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for Butler County and surrounding areas. The warning, which went into effect at 6 p.m. Monday, includes Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Clarion, Greene, Indiana, Jefferson, Lawrence and Washington counties in Pennsylvania. The warning extends until 11:45 a.m. Tuesday. The National Weather Service is warning that flooding could hit small streams and urban areas. A high winds warning also remains in effect through noon Tuesday. Winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph are possible in the area, according to weather service. The winds are expected to increase Monday afternoon, with the strongest gusts happening late Monday through the early hours of Tuesday morning. The winds …

National Weather Service Issues Another Flood Warning

More storms move through the area on Saturday.

The National Weather Service issued a flood warning at 4:10 p.m. Saturday as yet more thunderstorms rolled through the area. The warning is in effect until 7:15 p.m. for Allegheny, Beaver, Butler and Westmoreland counties. A flood warning means flooding is imminent or has been reported. "Stream rises will be slow and flash flooding is not expected," according to the National Weather Service website. At 4:08 pm. the weather service reported up to an inch of rain had fallen in the previous hour across the warning areas. "These same areas received over three inches of rain in the past 24 hours. Additional rainfall is expected over the next several hours," the National Weather Service stated. "Road flooding can be expected in urban areas. …

National Weather Service Issues Flood Warning as Storms Unleash More Rain

More than two inches of rain has fallen in past few hours.

As storms continue to roll through the area, the National Weather Service issued a flood warning for urban areas and small streams Friday night. The warning covers Allegheny, Beaver, Butler and Westmoreland counties until 2:30 a.m. Saturday. The National Weather Service also issued a flash flood watch at 9 p.m. Friday that is in effect until 4 a.m. Saturday. The flash flood watch area encompasses Allegheny, Butler and Beaver counties. A flash flood watch means conditions may develop that lead to dangerous flash flooding. “Some locations in Western Pennsylvania received between one and four inches of rainfall on Thursday,” the National Weather Service reports. “With additional rainfall expected to move into the region this evening … the …

Flood Warning Issued for Small Streams in Area

More rain predicted.

The National Weather Service issued a flood warning for small streams today that will be in effect until 12:45 a.m. "Rain and embedded showers moving north across northern West Virginia will cross the warned area this afternoon into this evening," the weather service said in an announcement. "An additional one-half to three-quarters of an inch of rain is expected. With saturated ground this will bring streams and creeks out of their banks." A flood warning means flooding is imminent or has been reported, according to the weather service. Stream rises will be slow and flash flooding is not expected, the service added. After all the rain and wind from Sunday night into Monday morning, it sure seemed like a possibility that a few houses may get uprooted and carried away. “It’s been very weird weather,” said Jerry Andree, Cranberry Township manager. While Mark Nanna, assistant administrator at the Cranberry Township Volunteer Fire Company, said the department has yet to receive a call for flooded basements or downed trees, the National Weather Service issued a flood warning and a tornado watch for the area.
