An Anthony’s Coal-Fired Pizza could be in the works for the Cranberry Crossroads shopping complex on Route 228. The restaurant, which features “well-done” pizzas, wings and other Italian dished cooked on an 800-degree coal burning oven, would be located in Cranberry Crossroads West, a new phase of the development that Cranberry Planning Commission officials are expected to review at their next meeting at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25. Online plans for the new addition show 12,106 square feet of retail space and a 5,500 square foot restaurant. New North Catholic High School Construction Gets Underway In June, Bishop David Zubik blessed the site of the new Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic High School along Route 228 in Cranberry during a groundbreaking ceremony. From there, it was full speed ahead on construction. In December, the bishop returned to the area for a "topping out" ceremony as the last beam was hoisted onto the building's steel skeleton. The school is the first the Pittsburgh Diocese has built in 45 years. “It’s really a dream come true,” Zubik said. Cranberry residents have another new dining option in the community. On Monday, Noodles & Company, a fast casual chain specializing in noodle dishes from Thailand to Italy, opened in the Cranberry Crossroads retail plaza along Route 228. “The basis of our menu is flavors inspired from around the world, and then we also have soups, salads and sandwiches,” said Noodles & Company spokeswoman Mandy Melby. The Colorado-based company—which has more than 300 locations in 28 states—began opening restaurants in the Pittsburgh market last year, Melby said. At Tuesday’s Cranberry Board of Supervisors meeting, officials gave final approval to the seafood chain, which will replace the King’s Family Restaurant on Route 19 in the Cranberry Mall. Also getting the green light were plans a four-story Home2 Suites By Hilton to be located at The Summit of Cranberry Woods along Route 228 near the Westinghouse headquarters. Owned by GMR Restaurants of Pennsylvania LLC—a subsidiary of Darden Restaurants, Inc.—the Red Lobster will be about 5,880 square foot and seat 220 people. After months of construction, the new two-story Dick’s Sporting Goods at the Cranberry Crossroads retail plaza along Route 228 is open for business. “We’ve had a fantastic turnout,” said store manager Tom Antle. Although the store will hold its official grand opening Friday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony—plus visits from local professional athletes throughout the three-day weekend celebration—a soft opening took place Tuesday. An official launch, including a ribbon cutting ceremony, will be held at 8 a.m. Friday, Oct. 19. Cranberry area residents will soon have a new place to shop for furniture well as a unique facility to take the family dog. At Thursday’s Board of Supervisors meeting, Cranberry officials unanimously gave final approval to plans for a La-Z-Boy at the Cranberry Crossroads shopping and office plaza. Developer Phil Bishop of ECHO Realty said the 12,063 square-foot furniture store would be the final piece to the development, which currently is under construction on Route 228. When finished, the shopping center will feature a two-story Dick’s Sporting Goods at its center.
