Cranberry area commuters have a new option for catching the bus to and from Pittsburgh. On Nov. 5, New Castle Area Transit added a loop from Warrendale to Pittsburgh. The bus departs at 6:30 and 7:30 a.m. Monday through Friday at the state Park and Ride on Warrendale-Bayne Road. The bus leaves the city at 4:15 and 5:30 p.m. from the Port Authority East Busy Way Penn Station, Amtrak (Gate D), according to the New Castle Area Transit website. The cost is $4. The added loop marks another option for Cranberry area commuters after the Port Authority of Allegheny County did away with the 13K Marshall Express in Marshall in a regional round of cutbacks in 2011. It's not just dessert. Carnegie Mellon University introduced Tiramisu, a real-time bus and light rail car tracker app, in partnership with the Port Authority Wednesday.
Pittsburgh transit riders standing at a bus stop want to know the answer to only one pressing question, “Where’s my bus?” Thanks to a new iPhone application, Tiramisu, developed at Carnegie Mellon University, riders with the popular Apple product will have a new tool to help them find out quickly. Tiramisu, an Italian word meaning, “pick me up,” is an app that relies primarily on crowdsourcing information from transit riders to determine the location and occupancy level of the Port Authority of Allegheny County buses and light rail cars in real time. It's a rainy day for hockey – too rainy. Due to weather, the 2011 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic has been rescheduled to 8 p.m., and Port Authority shuttle service to the game will be adjusted accordingly. Until 2 a.m. Sunday, all rides on Port Authority buses, T and the Mon Incline will be free today compliments of Pepsi MAX. Pepsi MAX will also cover the cost of fares on shuttle service to the game. For those heading down to the game or any of the festivities surrounding it, bring an umbrella.
