Jury Selection Begins in Trial of Man Charged with Raping Women in Ross, Hopewell

Arthur Lamont Henderson has been in the Allegheny County Jail since his arrest a year ago.

Jury selection begins Thursday in the trial of Arthur Lamont Henderson, who is charged with raping and robbing women in Ross and Hopewell a year ago. Henderson, 39, of the North Side, has been in the Allegheny County Jail since his arrest Jan. 20, 2012. The charges against Henderson stem from two 2012 attacks on Ross Township women—one reported Saturday, Jan. 7, at the Woodhawk Club Apartments complex on Johnanna Drive and the other Monday, Jan. 9, at the Cascades Apartment complex off Cemetery Lane. In both cases, women in their mid-20s were attacked early in the morning after returning from walking their dogs, police said.  Hopewell Township Police also filed charges against Henderson for a sexual assault that occurred Jan. 7—the same …

Burglar Arrested Inside Marshall Office Building Pleads Guilty to Four Felonies

A Pittsburgh man who was arrested inside a Marshall Township office building pleaded guilty Wednesday to burglary and was sentenced to 2 1/2 to 5 years incarceration and 10 years probation. Timothy D. Barnett, 51, pleaded guilty to four felonies—two for burglary, one for criminal trespassing and one for criminal attempt. He also pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of receiving stolen property. Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas Judge Kathleen A. Durkin imposed the sentence. Northern Regional police Officer Timothy Spontak found Barnett inside the office building at 115 VIP Drive about 10 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 18, when he answered a call for an alarm activation, according to testimony in the preliminary hearing. News Nearby: Lender Plans to Foreclose on Shoppes at Northway; Asks Court for Receiver

The lender has asked a judge in the Allegheny Court of Common Pleas to appoint a receiver to manage the property until foreclosure proceedings are completed.

The owners of the Shoppes at Northway are in default on the mortgage for the property, according to a complaint filed in the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas. The amount due as of Jan. 24 was $23,688,588.43. Jefferson-Pilot Investments, acting in place of the original lender, has asked the court to appoint a receiver to manager the property, citing insufficient cash flow and deferred maintenance of the property. “Plantiff believes that the successful operation of the real property and preservation of its value during the foreclosure process critically depends in substantial part on it being managed by an appropriate third-party professional in order to provide adequate managment and maintenance of the real property as well as to …
