On Saturday, Cranberry resident Jim Nickel made a childhood dream come true. During a silent auction held at the Seneca Valley’s Sweetness & Light Gala at Heinz Hall in Pittsburgh, the Seneca Valley board member placed the winning bid on an opportunity to throw out the first pitch at an upcoming Pittsburgh Pirates home game, something he has wanted to do since he was 12 years old. “It was a fun, fun night,” he said. Nickel wasn’t the evening’s only big winner. That designation was reserved for the Seneca Valley School District. Superintendent Dr. Tracy Vitale said the gala raised at least $10,000 for the Seneca Valley Foundation, a private, tax-exempt nonprofit corporation that seeks donations and patrons to help develop capital projects, …

Silent auction packages are available for bidding online now.
The Seneca Valley Foundation’s Sweetness & Light Gala isn’t until February, but the nonprofit already is tempting attendees with a number of auction items. Participants are invited to review the silent auction packages, and even bid online, by clicking here. Some of the goodies include box seats for a Pittsburgh Penguins hockey game, throwing out the first pitch at a Pirates home game and a private tour of the Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh. The gala takes place at 6 p.m. Feb. 9 in the Regency Rooms at Heinz Hall. All proceeds from the event will go to the Seneca Valley Foundation, a private, tax-exempt nonprofit corporation. Just in time for Valentine’s Day, the Seneca Valley Foundation will host a ‘Sweetness & Light Gala’ at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at Heinz Hall in Pittsburgh. The gala will include numerous baskets to raffle and items to auction off, all of which total more than $7,000 in value. The gala also will feature performances by the Seneca Valley Strings Quartet. Small plate appetizers will be served and cocktails will be made available. The evening culminates at 8 p.m. with a performance of “My Fair Lady” by the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.
