A winter storm warning has been canceled.
The Cranberry area woke up to a late blast of spring snow this morning. The most intense snow accumulations—about 3 to 5 inches total—are expected this morning, before diminishing this afternoon. The National Weather Service in Moon Township has cancelled a winter storm warning, but a winter weather advisory remains in effect until 2 p.m. for southwestern Pennsylvania, including Butler, Allegheny and Lawrence counties. A winter weather advisory means that snow will cause travel difficulties so use caution while driving.

The Seneca Valley School District is operating on a two-hour delay Monday after a spring snow storm coated the area overnight. The kindergarten schedule is as follows: St. Kilian Parish School in Cranberry and St. Gregory in Zelienople also have issued a two-hour delay for Monday. Nearly all of western Pennsylvania, including Butler County, remains under a winter weather advisory issued by the National Weather Service until 2 p.m. tonight. The snow is expected start Sunday evening.
The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the entire Pittsburgh region, including the Cranberry area beginning 8 p.m. Sunday through 11 a.m. Monday. Forecasters say the snow will be most intense from midnight Sunday through the pre-dawn hours of Monday, accumulating 4-8 inches before ending by Monday afternoon. Up to 5 inches of snow is possible, according to weather forecaster.
It appears March is doing its best to go out like a lion. The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh has upgraded the winter weather advisory for parts of western Pennsylvania, including the Cranberry area, from 1 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to a warning. The warning includes Butler, Mercer, Venango, Forest, Lawrence, Clarion, Jefferson, Armstrong and Indiana counties. Allegheny County remains under a winter weather advisory. Ice accumulations of up to a tenth of an inch and snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches, with some areas getting up to five inches, are possible in Butler County. So far, it’s hard to tell.
You know the old saying, right—March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb. The beginning of March often includes cold weather and even snowstorms (like the one we had last week!). Typically, after all this is Pittsburgh weather we’re talking about here, the weather gives way to milder temperatures by month’s end. As we approach the mid-point of March, Cranberry area residents already have experienced the wet, the wild and the warm weather. Last Wednesday was the aforementioned snowstorm that canceled classes around the region, including at Seneca Valley. By the weekend, temperatures were approached 70—and there were actual blue skies! It's a snow day for Seneca Valley students. The district has cancelled classes for Wednesday, March 6 because of the inclement weather. Seneca Valley will make up today's school closure on Monday, March 11. Yes, that means school will now be in session on Monday. St. Kilian Parish School in Cranberry, which follows Seneca Valley for closings and delays, also is closed. In addition, Cranberry's Parks & Recreation Department has canceled a number of activities for the day. The National Weather Service is warning drivers of hazardous travel conditions.
Thus far, March is certainly doing its best to come in like a lion. The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory in effect from 6 p.m. Tuesday through 7 p.m. Wednesday for the Pittsburgh region. Snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches are predicted in the Cranberry area, according to the weather service. The flakes are expected to start late Tuesday afternoon as a mix of rain and snow moves into the area. The most intense snow could fall overnight Tuesday into Wednesday. The weather could cause hazardous travel conditions due to snow-covered streets. Motorists should prepare for limited visibility on the roads. The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for most of Friday.
Expect freezing rain and ice accumulations of about a tenth of an inch on Friday in the Cranberry area. That's the word from the National Weather Service. It issued a winter weather advisory that is in effect from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday. The freezing rain is expected to begin between 6 and 8 a.m. and end between 1 and 3 p.m. The National Weather Service warns of hazardous travel conditions because of ice-covered roads.
