Oh My You're Gorgeous, No Excuses Fitness by Kelly and You Rock Fitness were winners with readers.
People in the Cranberry area certainly feel passionate about their gyms, as evidenced by the 3,805 votes we received for this week’s Readers’ Choice poll—the most votes we’ve ever had cast for any topic. Reaching out to its network of fitness devotees, Oh My You’re Gorgeous in Adams Township was the top vote getter with 2,268 votes. “My fan base literally expands all over the world,” said Stephanie Babines, owner of the studio that, among its specialties, holds pole dance fitness classes. We also received lots of votes for No Excuses Fitness by Kelly in Zelienople—which had 901 votes—and You Rock Fitness in Wexford, which received 528 votes. Because fans of the fitness centers were so impassioned about their choices— including numerous …

You!
We only got a handful of votes in this week’s Readers’ Choice poll asking people to vote for their favorite tax preparer. This was, however, one clear winner, and that was (drum roll please!) you. The majority of voters said they prepare and file their taxes online themselves. Coming in second were Brunner, Blackstone & Associates, Louis Zona, CPA, Booksmarts and Karen L. Vidt, CPA. Each had one vote. Just as a reminder, Tax Day is April 17 this year. If you still would like to weigh in before the deadline to file your taxes rolls around, feel free to tell us in the comments. Thank you also to those who voted in our poll. We’ll we back on Monday with another Readers’ Choice question—this one on the best place to go in the area to buy …

Tax Day is April 17 this year.
‘Tis the season—to file your taxes, that is. The deadline to file your tax returns is right around the corner. While “Tax Day” traditionally falls on April 15, the IRS has extended this year’s deadline to April 17. This was done because April 15 is on a Sunday this year. Also, Emancipation Day, a holiday observed in the District of Columbia, is April 16. According to federal law, District of Columbia holidays impact tax deadlines in the same way that federal holidays do. In other words, there’s a two-day reprieve for us procrastinators—yes! Taxpayers requesting an extension will have until Oct. 15 to file their 2012 tax returns. Whew, now that we’ve got the deadlines figured out, we want to know where you go to have your taxes prepared for…

Fans of the family-owned restaurant pushed it ahead of First Watch.
Congratulations go out this week to the Freedom Square Diner! The family-owned restaurant on Freedom Road blew away the competition in this week’s poll asking readers which business in the Cranberry area serves up the best brunch. The diner received 78 percent of the votes. In second place was Cranberry’s First Watch, which had 12 percent of the votes. “We just appreciate all the people in Cranberry,” said Shawn Cross, whose family owns the restaurant. “We do a lot for them and we appreciate that they voted for us.” Besides serving up a great meal, Freedom Square Diner also is heavily involved in working with local charities, including the Cranberry CUP, The Miracle League of Southwestern Pennsylvania—which has its field at Graham Park in …

English Lutheran and St. Paul's Lutheran churches will share more than just a pastor on Sunday.
Even though English Lutheran Church and St. Paul’s Lutheran Churchin Zelienople began sharing a pastor in August they still retain separate worship services. That will all change on Sunday. With the Rev. Bob Keplinger leading, the churches plan to unite to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on America, with a parade to the grassy area on Zelienople’s Main Street where the town’s war memorials are found. “We’re going to do a 9/11 observance,” Keplinger said. Keplinger, who spent 25 years at English Lutheran before entering a cooperative ministry with St. Paul’s after the retirement of that church’s longtime pastor, said he is looking at the day as a way to show unification of the churches. “We wanted something that …
