Mother's Day Special: Moms Get Pampered with 'Nite Out' at Ross Park Mall

The event includes swag bag giveaways and more.

Calling all moms! With Mother's Day right around the corner, Ross Park Mall invites moms to a night of relaxation and pampering with a "Mom's Nite Out" May 9. This year, Mom’s Nite Out is presented at Ross Park by Bob FM and Q92.9, and mothers are invited to a night of fun, prizes and fashion. The free event is an excuse for moms to take the night off to relax and enjoy a celebration of motherhood. The event kicks off at 5:30 p.m. with a swag bag giveaway including samples from Mom’s Nite Out retailers and partners while supplies last. Over the next hour, moms will register to compete in a game called “Shopped!” and also have a chance to win some prizes. The store is undergoing a complete home department renovation.

JC Penney's is revamping the home good section of 500 of its 1,100 stores, including its Ross Park Mall location . Top designers such as Jonathan Adler and Michael Graves will anchor Penney’s new home goods section, which will have 20 shops by the time the renovations are complete. The new home section is part of the company's plan to remake Penney's larger stores into collections of boutiques-within-a-store, reported Reuters.com. Nearby: Four New Stores Opening Soon at Ross Park Mall

Two other stores are undergoing spring makeovers.

Ross Park Mall will welcome three new stores by the end of April—and a fourth by mid-summer. Starbucks will open at the end of the month in the center of the mall. Lush Fresh Handmade Cosmetics will open in mid-April. The company hand crafts a variety of soaps, shampoos, shower gels and lotions using fruits, vegetables, and essential oils rather than animal fat and oils. Deer Creek Winery is also set to open in mid-April. It will feature Pennsylvania wines and will be located beside Macy's on the lower level. Bachrach, a menswear boutique offering casual, office and formal wear, will open this summer. Ross Police Release Surveillance Pictures of Louis Vuitton Handbag Heist at Ross Park Mall

Police said the five suspects, working together, grabbed pricey handbags off the displays and were gone in less than a minute.

Ross Township police have released photos of the five people suspected of a coordinated-shoplifting hit on the Louis Vuitton store in the Ross Park Mall Thursday night. Police said the five walked into the store around 8 p.m., and working together, grabbed the pricey handbags off the displays. They were gone in about 30 seconds, according to police. By the time employees realized what was going on it was too late. "The employees did attempt to confront the actors when they fled the store," said Detective Brian Kohlhepp. "No one was injured and no customers were ever in danger." Ross Park Mall Announces Location of Microsoft Holiday Store

The new store is one of 30 opening nationwide later this fall.

Ross Park Mall has announced the new Microsoft holiday store will be located on the lower level, in front of Simon guest services. The closest entrance are the doors adjacent to L.L. Bean. Microsoft is opening 30 new holiday stores throughout the country as part its plan to meet demand for new Windows 8-enabled devices, according to PCMag.com.  "The holiday stores continue to offer customers the opportunity to learn new technology skills and get the most out of their Microsoft-enabled devices," Microsoft said in a statement, according to PCMag.com. Nearby: Labor Dispute Prompts Protest Outside Ross Park Mall

Carpenters group accuses the owner of Ross Park Mall of using a contractor who does not pay standard wages and benefits.

For the past several weeks, a large banner with the words "Shame on Simon Property group” has greeted drivers at the south entrance of Ross Park Mall, just off McKnight Road. Simon Properties operates the mall, but the dispute does not involve any current work being performed there. Members of the Greater Pennsylvania Regional Council of Carpenters accuse Simon Properties of hiring an independent contractor who does not pay area standard wages and benefits at another property in the South Hills. News Nearby: Mother Accused of Coercing Daughter into Shoplifting Spree at Ross Park Mall

The pair was caught with nearly $5,000 worth of merchandise in a rented pick-up truck on McKnight Road.

Ross Township police say a mother coerced her 14-year-old daughter to go on a high-end shoplifting spree inside Ross Park Mall Sunday before police nabbed them on McKnight Road.  Kate Spiker, 36, of Sharpsburg, was seen snatching high-end purses inside Nordstrom, according to police.  Her daughter was behind the wheel of a rented pick-up truck outside the mall waiting while her mother made several trips in and out of various shops with the loot.  “They took nearly $5,000 worth of merchandise,” said Ross Police Sgt.
