UPDATED: State Police Ask Motorists to Stay Off Icy Butler County Roads

State Route 422 East in Summit Township has reopened in both directions after a vehicle crash between Heist and Carbon Center roads. Route 422 West also has reopened between Route 8 and Route 356.

Third Update: As of 3:30 p.m. Route 422 West open. SECOND UPDATE: As of 1:30 p.m. Route 422 West is closed between Route 8 and Route 356 due to an overturned tractor-trailer. UPDATE: As of 1 p.m., state Route 422 East in Summit Township is reopen in both directions between Heist and Carbon Center roads. The highway was closed earlier because of a multi-vehicle crash.  Earlier story: After a number of car accidents throughout Butler County, state police are asking motorists to stay off the roads. “Roadways throughout Butler County are very treacherous due to ice/freezing rain,” Lt. The Flakes are Flying Now

Cranberry residents can expect up to three inches of snow to fall this evening with another 1 to 2 inches overnight.

It’s heeee-errrre … The snow promised by the National Weather Service arrived right on schedule in Cranberry Township. The flakes started falling around 2 p.m. and quickly covered roads with no signs of slowing down. Meteorologist Brad Rehak said the community should see up to three inches of snow by this evening with an additional 1 to 2 inches falling overnight. More snow also in is the forecast throughout the day Wednesday with an 80 percent chance of precipitation. Rehak said another 1 to 2 inches of snow is possible. Jason Daily, Cranberry’s director of public works, also has been paying close attention to the weather forecast.
