This week's restaurant spotlight is on the Log Cabin Inn, located at 430 Perry Highway in Harmony. Owned by the Springfield Restaurant Group, which also owns the Springfield Grille in Adams Township and Rachel's Roadhouse in Mercer, the Log Cabin Inn is a rustic eatery, with cozy indoor seating and an outdoor deck overlooking the woods. The menu includes a varied selection of meat entrees, seafood and pasta. There is also an extensive list of salads, sandwiches, burgers and wraps. The restaurant features a full bar. This week's restaurant spotlight is on Restaurant ECHO, located at 1740 Pennsylvania 228 in Cranberry. Opened in December 2010 at the former Hereford & Hops Steakhouse & Brewpub, Restaurant ECHO is co-owned by Ron Hammond and his son, Brian Hammond. Brian Hammond, a Seneca Valley High School grad, also is the restaurant’s executive chef. Prior to opening Restaurant ECHO, he worked at several upscale restaurants in Chicago, including the Rick Bayless-owned restaurants Frontera Grill and Topolobampo. Owned by the Springfield Restaurant Group, which also owns the Log Cabin Inn in Harmony and Rachel's Roadhouse in Mercer, the Springfield Grille offers a variety of steaks, seafood, pastas and salads. This fabulous restaurant and lounge is no dive.
Overview: The Dive Bar & Grille in the Pine Tree Shoppes off Perry Highway in Wexford is almost invisible, which is a shame because its menu and atmosphere scream, "Notice me!" The menu is extensive, and the food is interesting, well-prepared, and yet reasonably priced. The Dive is open from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Monday through Sunday. It has a terrific seven-day-a-week happy hour, with food and drink specials. Frequent diners enjoy 10 percent off with the "Very Important Regular" card. An orchard view and good food make for a lovely night out.
Overview: Bella Frutteto means "beautiful orchard." Its name comes from the lovely view of Soergel's Orchard from the restaurant's patio. Bella Frutteto serves authentic, contemporary Italian cuisine. Reservations are suggested on weekends, as it is a popular dining spot. It was very busy the Saturday night we were there. Although the restaurant is not affiliated with Soergel's, many of its specialties feature apples. It is open daily for lunch and dinner. Décor: The dining areas are decorated in warm, muted tones. The lighting is dim, almost too dim, but the atmosphere overall is congenial and intimate. The bar is newly remodeled and very large. Overview: There is a lot more than meets the eye when you look at Yama Sushi from the outside. The storefront at 515 Adams Shoppes in Mars looks small, but step inside and you are in a Japanese restaurant. Drinks: Yama Sushi has tea, coffee and soft drink products. You can also B.Y.O.B. The extensive sushi and roll selections are a bit overwhelming even for big sushi eaters such as my two teen sons, Kenton and Cole, and me. Overview: Spadafora’s Bar & Restaurant offers delicious, homemade Italian food and other specialties at its Allison Park restaurant on Route 8. Decor: Spadafora’s is a small, modern restaurant with booths, tables and a full bar. It also has an outdoor seating area that is quite nice despite the close location to Route 8. Drinks: “Spaddy’s,” as we call it, often offers drink specials such as the Spadatini. The restaurant also stocks local wine from nearby La Casa Narcisi’s Winery. I love the Log Cabin Inn, but we don't go there any more because of the long wait time and they don't take reservations. I miss going......but I don't miss the long wait times, and not being able to plan on how long of a wait we are going to have.. more ›
