Three people charged with shooting off guns during a New Year’s Eve party in the Fernway neighborhood in Cranberry and striking at least two homes with bullets are heading to the Butler County Court of Common Pleas. Christopher Nemit, 29, of Pittsburgh, Rachel Sherd, 28, of Cranberry, and Lucinda Jones, 34, of Finleyville, on Friday waived their preliminary hearings before District Judge David Kovach in Cranberry. All three are charged with discharging a firearm into an occupied structure, recklessly endangering another person, criminal mischief, permitted use of firearms and disorderly conduct. Cranberry police have filed charges against several people for shooting off guns during a New Year’s Eve party in the Fernway neighborhood and striking at least two homes with bullets. Christopher Nemit, 29, of Pittsburgh, Rachel Sherd, 28, of Cranberry, and Lucinda Jones, 34, of Finleyville all are charged with discharging a firearm into an occupied structure, recklessly endangering another person, criminal mischief, permitted use of firearms and disorderly conduct. Another Cranberry resident whose home was hit by bullets shot off during a New Year’s Eve party in his neighborhood said one of the stray slugs landed right near his feet. “The ball drops at midnight and a couple seconds later there was debris falling around the house,” Jonell Hart said. Hart’s home was one of at least two homes in the Fernway plan hit by bullets just after midnight on New Year’s Eve. There were no injuries in the incident, which Cranberry Police continue to investigate. After police interviewed partygoers at the Robinhood Drive house where the shots were fired, Sgt. A homeowner says she was terrified after shots fired during a New Year’s Eve celebration shattered glass in her bedroom and living room.
Cranberry Police continue to investigate after bullets stuck at least two homes in the Fernway plan on New Year’s Eve. Sgt. Chuck Mascellino said the shots were fired at the ground and in the air around midnight during a party at a home on Robinhood Drive in Cranberry. Some of the bullets went through the walls and windows of homes on Sherwood Drive and Lincolnshire Drive. No one was injured in the incident. “It was very fortunate,” Mascellino said. Renee Piroth, who lives in one of the houses struck by bullets, said she and her husband had just gotten into bed when she heard a loud boom. “We went out and checked and there was nothing, so we went back to bed,” she said.
