PLCB Issues Refunds after Double-Billing Customers

Check your credit card bill if you bought alcohol in Pennsylvania around Thanksgiving.

  The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board reports that it double-billed customers who used credit to make purchases over the Thanksgiving holiday. The PLCB, in a statement, says it became aware Feb. 28 of the duplicate billings on purchases made from Wednesday, Nov. 23 to Monday, Nov. 28 The error impacted in-store purchases but not online purchases, according to the PLCB statement. As of March 1, the PLCB says duplicate billings were reversed. PLCB says that the credit could take three to 10 days to appear after being processed by the banking institution. “The Liquor Control Board sincerely apologizes for the error and any inconvenience this may have caused its customers.” - PLCB Statement Customers who had a duplicate billing and have not …

Giant Eagle Announces Recall of Lettuce, Sandwich Rings

Those items may have been contaminated by listeria, which causes food poisoning.

Giant Eagle, which has locations in Cranberry Township and Seven Fields, has issued a recall of bags of shredded iceberg lettuce, as well as certain sandwich rings, because they may have been contaminated by listeria, which causes food poisoning. Any customers with bags of "F.M. shredded lettuce" with the UPC code "3003430195" should return those bags to Giant Eagle for a full refund. Because contaminated lettuce may have been used in Giant Eagle's Italian, New York and All-American sandwich rings, customers who return those sandwich rings also will recieve a full refund. Seneca Valley Has No Plans for Tax Refund

The district receives additional funding from the state, prompting questions about its budget.

After reviewing a breakdown of the numbers at Monday's school board meeting, Seneca Valley officials said they have no plans to issue taxpayers a refund using unexpected money received from the state. Business director Lynn Burtner said the district will receive an additional $462,000 from the state under its revised budget for education funding. The district already has received an additional $250,000 in Accountability Block Grant funding, which Burtner said would be used for literacy training. In response to questions from board member Eric DiTullio, Burtner said the basic education money would generate .89 of a mill in real estate taxes if it were used to offset tax increases approved by officials for the 2011-12 school year.
