Last year, the local Red Cross West Central Pennsylvania Chapter, serving Beaver, Butler, Lawrence and Mercer counties, responded to nearly 100 disasters in the community—most often home fires. The organization’s volunteer network provides disaster victims with immediate relief in the form of food, clothing, shelter and comfort. However, the humanitarian work could not be accomplished without this very network of dedicated and passionate volunteers. With a low number of volunteers, the local chapter is actively recruiting volunteers to serve as disaster responders. The Red Cross encourages interested Cranberry area residents to become a part of the team. As part of the Disaster Action Team, disaster response volunteers work with victims on…

Forecasters expect as much as 2-3 inches of rain over the next several days, and snow showers moving in by Tuesday night.
While the U.S. East Coast prepares for what forecasters say could be a storm of "historic" proportions, emergency management officials are preparing for the worst and hoping for the best for the storm dubbed "Frankenstorm". A hazardous weather outlook issued by the National Weather Service early Saturday warns that prolonged rainfall is expected for the first half of the week. "That rain may be heavy at times on Monday night and Tuesday and runoff may cause flooding of small streams," the weather service website states. "The potential for river flooding will have to be monitored during the second half of the week." The National Weather Service also warns that windy conditions on Monday and Tuesday might cause minor damage and power outages…

A portion of the proceeds from the "One of Us" singer's performance tonight will go to the Red Cross of Butler County.
“If God had name, what would it be/And would you call it to his face…” If you can finish the next lyric then you remember Joan Osborne, the curly-haired pop-folk darling who broke onto the music scene in 1995 with her smash hit One of Us. In the time since the ethereal One of Us ruled the radio airwaves, the Grammy-nominated Osborne has mostly flown under the radar, touring with Motown-backing band The Funk Brothers and with the Dixie Chicks. She later appeared in the documentary Standing in the Shadows of Motown. In 2008, Osborne returned to her rock roots with Little Wild One, an album that the same team that gave us One of Us produced. She now is set to release Bring it on Home, which Osborne described on her Web site as a bluesy mix of…
