Cranberry Police Continue Shooting Investigation, Expect to Release New Details

The vehicle 19-year-old Lagene Lawson was driving smashed into the Lane Bryant store early Saturday. Lawson shot himself while behind the wheel in Cranberry during a police pursuit.

Cranberry Township authorities are expected to release new details in their continuing investigation into what led 19-year-old Lagene Lawson to fatally shoot himself after police pursued him into the Cranberry Commons shopping center early Saturday morning. Lawson, of New Castle, killed himself while still behind the wheel of his moving vehicle. The vehicle crashed into the Lane Bryant store, causing extensive damage. Adams Township police attempted to stop the driver around 3:15 a.m. after Lawson sped past an officer near Mars Area High School on Route 228. The driver who crashed in the Lane Bryant store at Cranberry Commons Mall has been identified as 19-year-old Lagene Lawson.

Investigators have identified the driver who fatally shot himself early Saturday morning after police pursued him into the parking lot of the Cranberry Commons shopping center as 19-year-old Lagene Lawson, of New Castle. Cranberry Police Sgt. Chuck Mascellino said Adams Township police attempted to stop the driver around 3:15 a.m. after the man sped past an officer near Mars Area High School on Route 228. “The driver refused to stop for the officer and was pursed into Cranberry Township,” Mascellino said in a statement. “Cranberry Township police officers were approaching the area of Route 228 to assist the Adams Township officer when the vehicle turned into the Cranberry Commons shopping center.” After entering the shopping center, the …

Updated: Police File Drug Charges Against Driver After High-Speed Car Chase Ends in Cranberry Township

Jackson Township police said a 17-year-old and another man jumped from the moving vehicle in Wednesday's pursuit.

A Butler County woman is facing drug and reckless-driving charges after she sped off to evade Jackson Township and Cranberry police officers while her 17-year-old son and another man were in the vehicle. Jackson Township Police Chief Terry Seilhamer said a patrolling officer attempted to pull over a black Chevrolet Blazer that Nancy Hinchberger, 45, of Butler, was driving at about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday on Route 528. The officer saw the Blazer cross the center line of the road several times, Seilhamer said. Instead of stopping, Hinchberger drove away at a high rate of speed near the park-and-ride lot on Lindsay Road before turning south on to Route 19 and entering Cranberry Township, the chief said. UPDATE: Cranberry Officer Hurt, Driver Dies After Chase on Interstate 79

Multiple police agencies involved in 100-mph chase from Sewickley Heights through Cranberry, Jackson townships.

The driver who led police on a 100-mph chase through two counties last night before crashing into a Cranberry police car and falling more than 20 feet from an overpass on Interstate 79 died today of his injuries. Thomas William Booth, 22, of Volant, died at UPMC Presbyterian in Oakland, where he was taken by medical helicopter after he and a Cranberry Township police officer fell more than 20 feet from the overpass in Jackson Township. He was pronouced dead at 10:53 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's office. Cranberry Police Cpl.
