Several fire companies battled a blaze on Old State Road Monday afternoon that heavily damaged a Pine Township home. Wexford Volunteer Fire Company Chief Tim Flaherty said crews were called to the home located near Wexford Bayne Road at about 2:15 p.m. for reports of a fire in the laundry room on the first floor of the home. The blaze quickly spread through the building. Flames could be seen shooting from the roof of the three-story home, which was built more than a century ago. "The house is pretty old, so there were a lot of void spaces in attic and the roof structure," the chief said of why the blaze spread so quickly. After the numbers jumped from 350 to 650, Duquesne Light says less than 100 homes are in the dark. Penn Power reports electricity is completely restored in Cranberry, Adams and Pine townships.
UPDATE: As of 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Duquesne Light is reporting there are less than 100 customers remaining in the area without service. Power should be restored everyone by 11 p.m. tonight, according to the power company. Earlier Tuesday there were about 650 Duquesne Light customers without power as a result of the strong winds and rain from Superstorm Sandy that swept through western Pennsylvania Monday. The numbers dipped to 350 before jumping back up to 650 customers Tuesday morning. Duquesne Light crews spent the day restoring power by removing trees and repairing downed wires. A man charged with having sexual relations with a 15-year-old Pine Township youth he met through a Craigslist ad has been ordered to stand trial by Magisterial District Judge William K. Wagner. Mark Doncic, 52, of Castle Shannon, was held for court Wednesday on six felony counts—statutory sexual assault, corruption of minors, aggravated indecent assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and two counts of unlawful contact with a minor. He pleaded not guilty through his attorney, Stanton D. Levenson. The FBI also is investigating Doncic and intends to prosecute its case in federal court, according to a criminal complaint. A Mars man charged stealing jewelry from a home Pine Township is in the Butler County Jail, where he faces 73 charges brought by police in Zelienople and Mars Borough. Matthew Lohr, 29, is charged with felony counts of burglary, theft and receiving stolen property in the Pine incident, according to Northern Regional Police Chief T. Robert Amann. Zelienople police charged Lohr with 58 felony counts of burglary, criminal trespassing and receiving stolen property, according to court documents. He is charged with stealing baseball cards and jewelery from a home on Emerson Drive in Zelienople on Aug. 30 in that incident. A Seven Fields man waived his preliminary hearing Wednesday on charges of resisting arrest, possessing cocaine and driving on a suspended license for an incident that occurred in Pine Township. Seth B. Jelic, 32, also was charged with tampering with evidence and possessing heroin, but the district attorney's office dropped those charges when Jelic appeared before Magisterial District Judge William K. Wagner. Jelic's formal arraignment is scheduled for August 30. Northern Regional police pulled Jelic into the Best Tile Plaza along Route 19 for a traffic stop on May 17, the criminal complaint states. When police arrived at a Treesdale home around 1 a.m. on April 28 to check out a report of an underage drinking party, they discovered a 20-year-old man who was "completely unresponsive" and called for an ambulance. That man—Tyler McWilliams—is the man who was arrested and charged over the weekend with felony counts of possessing and dealing marijuana, as well as underage drinking, according to court documents. The Gibsonia resident also faces misdemeanor charges of possessing suspected marijuana and Metadate/Methylphenidate, the criminal complaint states. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for today. Although Patricia K. Smith, the Cranberry woman who embezzled $10.2 million from Baierl Acura and used it to fund her lavish lifestyle and that of her family members, won’t be sentenced until Wednesday, the prosecution recommends she serve five to six years in prison. The former controller of the Pine Township-based car dealership, Smith, 58, pleaded guilty in January to one count of wire fraud before Senior United States District Judge Gustave Diamond.
