There will be traffic restrictions in place throughout July.
Improvement work is set to begin Monday in Marshall Township at the intersection of Route 19 and Freeport Road in Marshall Township near the border with Cranberry. Motorists should expect lanes to be closed in the intersection area from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. weekdays through mid-July. Crews with A. Folino Construction Company, Inc., will be adding a right-turn lane from northbound Route 19 to Freeport Road, two left-turn lanes from Freeport Road to southbound Route 19 and a turn lane from Freeport road to northbound Route 19. Other improvements include new traffic signals, signage, curbing, ADA ramps, drainage and widening. The construction company is under a contract with Marshall to conduct the work. PennDOT is not …

After years of traffic congestion—first from a too-narrow road and then from construction—Route 19 is close to completion.
UPDATE: The opening of all five lanes in the Wexford Flats area of Route 19 has been delayed ... but only by one day. PennDOT announced the delay because of expected cold temperatures tonight (Monday) that will not allow pavement markings to be placed. Here is the original story, with changed dates in bold face: Nearly two years after construction started on the Wexford Flats section of Route 19, the end is in sight. The newly constructed five-lane configuration of the road also known as Perry Highway will open to traffic on Wednesday (originally it was Tuesday) weather permitting, PennDOT District 11 announced. Work to remove long-term traffic restrictions and apply final lane and pavement markings will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday (…

Crews are working on the area at the North Chapel Drive intersection in Pine Township.
Driving up North Chapel Drive to the traffic signal at the Route 19 intersection, I glanced to my right and exclaimed: Holey Moley! There—with orange-and-white cautionary signs around it—was one deep hole! Being a Patch editor, I just had to get a photo to post to show everyone else. So I pulled into the Aldi parking lot, climbed up the steep—but (mercifully) short—hill to the area that parallels Route 19 and started snapping photos. I do not, by the way, recommend doing this. I stayed a healthy distance away from the traffic zooming by on Route 19 (Perry Highway) as I took photos. Then I slipped back down the parking lot hillside, shoes covered in mud. As I glanced into the hole I initially spotted, I realized there is a nearly identical …

Traffic will shift to new southbound lanes.
There's good news and bad news for motorists traveling the congested Route 19 area known as Wexford Flats in Pine Township. Work to widen and improve northbound Route 19 / Perry Highway in the Wexford Flats area of Pine Township begins Tuesday, weather permitting, according to PennDOT District 11. Good news: The traffic-snarling roadwork on southbound Route 19 in Pine Township is coming to an end. Crews have completed work between Wallace Road and Brooktree Road. Bad news: Construction—which is bound to tie up traffic—moves to the other side of Route 19 now. Traffic will shift to the west side of the road. One 10-foot-wide lane will be maintained in each direction with a center turn lane on the new southbound lanes. This traffic pattern …

PennDOT originally was slated to start work last week.
Monday, January 23, 2012
PennDOT has again postponed roadwork in the Wexford Flats area of Pine Township because of inclement weather. The right lane on southbound Route 19 now will be closed long-term beginning Tuesday, that is if weather permits it. Originally the work was scheduled to begin last Monday but was postponed several times due to weather. PennDOT today annouced the construction would be put off until noon on Tuesday. Crews will be installing drainage and constructing a retaining wall along southbound Route 19 between North Chapel/Manor Road and Brown Road. The restriction will continue around the clock through late March. Southbound traffic in the right travel lane approaching the North Chapel/Manor Road intersection will be required to turn right. …
