Incumbent Rep. Metcalfe Moves on to General Election With No Challenger

Write-in candidate Steve Smith says he will not pursue representing the 12th District in the House of Representatives.

The votes are in, and incumbent state Rep. Daryl Metcalfe, R-Cranberry, will seek his eighth term representing the 12th Legislative District in the fall general election. Barring a write-in campaign, he will not face a challenger in November. After launching a last-minute write-in campaign to take on Metcalfe in the primary election, Steve Smith, principal of Haine Middle School in the Seneca Valley School District, said he is pulling himself out of the race. No candidate had filed to run on the Democratic ballot, and Metcalfe had been unopposed on the Republican ballot before Smith announced his write-in campaign earlier this month.
