Update from PennDOT: Work on the ramp connecting the Liberty Bridge (Route 3069) to northbound I-579 (Crosstown Boulevard) has been canceled this weekend. The ramp will remain open. PennDOT is working hard to finish up several key projects as the road construction season winds down. There are seven areas where it will be slow going this weekend. At the top of the list is the McKees Rocks Bridge, which will be closed from Friday night through Saturday evening. Click on our interactive map which shows which areas to avoid.

PennDOT is working hard to finish up several key projects as the road construction season winds down. There are five areas where it will be slow going this weekend. At the top of the list is the inbound Squirrel Hill tunnels which will be closed Friday night through Monday morning. Intermittent, short-term single-lane and shoulder closures also will occur in several locations on I-79 and I-376 (Parkways East and West) from 6 a.m. to noon Saturday, weather permitting, according to PennDOT District 11. In addition to several roads and ramps, the inbound Squirrel Hill tunnel will be closed all weekend long.
PennDOT is working hard to finish up several key construction projects before the weather turns nasty. There are 10 different projects going on this weekend, including a few which will continue for weeks to come. The one with the biggest impact is the closing of the inbound Squirrel Hill Tunnels. The construction project will re-route thousands of commuters for the next several months.
Weather permitting, PennDOT crews late Thursday will shut down the Fancourt bridge which carries the ramps from Fort Duquesne Boulevard to I-376 over the 10th Street Bypass until mid-to-late December. About 7,461 vehicles use the Fancourt Bridge on an average day, a PennDOT statement said. Crews will be reconstructing the Fancourt Bridge, including removing and replacing the superstructure, bridge deck, beams, bearings and approach slabs. Work also includes repairing sections of the retaining walls adjacent to the bridge along the 10th Street Bypass. Cranberry area drivers heading south, east, or west should have few detours from PennDOT this weekend. However, the same cannot be said for the return trip home. Here's this week's orange cone alert: Parkway East (I-376) Squirrel Hill Tunnel Rehabilitation Traffic in the inbound Squirrel Hill Tunnel on the Parkway East will be restricted to a single lane from 9 p.m. to 10 a.m. Friday and Saturday nights for tunnel rehabilitation work. Grant Street Tunnel improvements Inbound Parkway East will be closed between Grant Street (Exit 71A) and the Fort Pitt Bridge/I-279 ramps from 9 p.m. on Friday through approximately noon Saturday. Getting from here to there may be challenging this weekend as crews performance maintenance and repair work on some of the area's busiest highways. I-579 Veterans Bridge Ramp improvements Traffic on the northbound I-579 Veterans Bridge approach to the Parkway North (I-279) will be reduced to a single lane from 8 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. on Monday.
