Thomas Shaffer was exiting Route 422 for when he lost control of the bike.
State police at Butler said a Slippery Rock man was speeding before he died Sunday in motorcycle crash in Muddy Creek Township. Thomas L. Shaffer, 49, was riding east on Route 422 at about 6:20 p.m. when he exited the highway for Route 19. Police said Shaffer failed to negotiate a curve on the ramp due to excessive speed and struck an embankment. He was thrown from the motorcycle and died at the scene, according to police. Troopers said Shaffer was wearing a helmet.

Gerald “Jerry” Rombach collided with a small SUV Friday in Cranberry.
An Economy man died Friday after being injured when his motorcycle collided with a SUV on Freedom Road near the lower entrance to the Cranberry Mall. Gerald “Jerry” Rombach, 63, collided with a Honda CRV turning left from Freedom Road into entrance of the mall at about 3 p.m. Friday. The impact caused him to land underneath the front of the SUV, according to Cranberry police. Rombach was conscious and talking when emergency responders arrived on the scene, police said. He was taken by ambulance to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh and died later the same day, according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s office. Traffic was tied up for about an hour Friday as police and fire crews cleared the accident from the roadway.
Traffic was tied up for about an hour Friday afternoon after a motorcycle and car collided on busy Freedom Road near the lower entrance to the Cranberry Mall. Cpl. William Ahlgren the motorcyclist driving east on Freedom Road at about 3 p.m. when he collided with the Honda CRV, which was turning left from Freedom Road into entrance of the mall. The impact caused the motorcyclist to land underneath the front of the SUV, Ahlgren said. “The gentleman fell underneath the car for a little bit after he was hit,” Ahlgren said. Ahlgren said the rider, whose name police do not know yet, was conscious and talking when emergency responders arrived on the scene.
