Coming Soon? Developers Still Hoping to Lure Trader Joe's to North Hills

Cranberry area readers keep asking, is Trader Joe's coming here?

As soon as the weather breaks, Cranberry area residents can expect to see construction get underway next year on the final phase of the nearby McCandless Crossing development in McCandless Township.  Phase Four of the development is on the east side of McKnight Road between Duncan Avenue and Cumberland Road. It includes five restaurants, three of which have already signed, 50 townhomes, and a 12-screen Cinemark Movie Theater—and that's just for starters. The town of McCandless and developer AdVenture Development also are hoping to lure a very popular specialty grocery store. That's right, a Trader Joe's grocery store. "We'd love to have Trader Joe's, but that's not a definite, they haven't signed," said Bruce Betty, town of McCandless Land…

I finally got to Wholefoods a month or so ago, since Wexford is such a pain to drive through, not a good choice …   more ›

Phase Four includes five restaurants, three of which have already signed, 50 townhomes, and a 12-screen Cinemark Movie Theater for starters. The town of McCandless and developer, AdVenture Development, is also hoping to lure a very popular specialty grocery store. Yep, a Trader Joe's. "We'd love to have Trader Joe's, but that's not a definite, they haven't signed," said Bruce Betty, …

The theater planned for McKnight Road now is set to open in fall 2013.

Plans to build a new, 12-screen, all-digital Cinemark theater at McCandless Crossing are still on, but the theater will be opening a year later than originally scheduled. A sign along McKnight Road near the deveopment now says the theater will be opening in fall 2013. The theater, according to a map posted on the McCandless website, will be on the side closest to La Roche College and UPMC Passavant, opposite McKnight Road from Lowe's Home Improvement and IHOP. McCandless Crossing is comprised of 130 acres on both sides of McKnight Road and is bisected by Duncan Avenue. Current tenants include Lowe's, LA Fitness, Fidelity Bank, Sports Clips, DiBella's Subs, Nail Studio II, Verizon, IHOP and Handel's Homemade Ice Cream and Yogurt.
