It was on the Kean Quest stage five years ago that Mike Evancho first realized his daughter had a gift. “We thought she sounded pretty, but doesn’t every parent?” he said. Her performance at the popular local talent competition at the Kean Theatre in Richland was the first time Jackie Evancho, who at the time had just turned 8, ever sang in public. As she let loose a number from Phantom of the Opera, Mike Evancho recalled seeing jaws drop in the audience. “It kind of went from there,” he said. Jackie wound up coming in a first runner up in the contest, but soon started to receive requests to sing at events around the region, including at a Pittsburgh Pirates game. Several local youths advanced Sunday to the finals of the 2013 Kean Quest Talent Search. Sabrina Knox and Karac O’Brien, both of Valencia, and Jordann Versaw, of Mars, were among the 14 performers chosen in the first round to move onto the finals at the Kean Theatre in Richland Township. Jackie Evancho will perform as part of an unprecedented Cirque du Soleil extravaganza at the Bellagio's "O" Theatre in Las Vegas on March 22 to support a global philanthropic effort called ONE NIGHT for ONE DROP on World Water Day, according to the singing star's website. ONE DROP, a nonprofit organization created by Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberté, works to secure water access by implementing integrated and unique water projects around the world and to reverse the growing water crisis by raising awareness for water-related issues. Kean Quest Talent Search—the popular local talent competition that boasts singing sensation Jackie Evancho and the face of the Eat n’ Park restaurant chain Sarah Marince as former contestants—is accepting contestant registrations for its 10th season. Contestants will take to the stage of the Kean Theatre from Jan. 27 through April 5. The theater is located on the St. Barnabas campus in Richland Township at 5847 Meridian Road, Gibsonia. Presented by St. Barnabas Charities as a fundraising event, Kean Quest Talent Search was formerly known as Kean Idol. Bidding started at $500 on Dec. 5 and ended at 10:50 a.m. ET Monday for "Complete Autographed Set Jackie Evancho CD's Bonus Japan Songs from Silver Screen", according to eBay. The seller is listed as "binlied2". Prelude to a Dream is Jackie's first CD, recorded before her America's Got Talent fame. It is now listed on Amazon.com for $2,400.
