Short-Term Lane Closures Continue This Week on I-79

The work will take place between the Wexford and Cranberry exits.

Motorists should prepare for starts and stops while driving Interstate 79 over the next week. There will be daily short-term lane closures on the highway between Exits 78-72 in Allegheny County, weather permitting, a statement from PennDOT said. The work will take place Monday through Friday of this week. Crews will continue to install cable median barrier and guide rail. Single lane closures will occur according to the following schedule: Northbound: Southbound: No restrictions will occur on Friday. There also will be no weekend work. PennDOT advises drivers to use caution, slow down and expect changing traffic patterns when traveling through the area. I-79 Short-Term Lane Closures Begin Today Between I-279 and Cranberry

Work is scheduled to be completed Feb. 3 if the weather permits.

Just when you thought the lane closures on Interstate 79 were over, along comes another one. Starting today, daily short-term lane closures will occur between Exits 72 (I-279) and 78 (Cranberry/Route 228) as crews install cable median barriers and guide rails, PennDOT announced. No weekend work is planned, and the project is scheduled to be completed Feb. 3, weather permitting.  Here is the schedule for the single-lane closures: Northbound: Southbound: Southbound restrictions will be lifted by 5 p.m. on Jan. 31 for the Penguins home game.    PennDOT advises motorists to use caution, slow down and expect changing traffic patterns when traveling through the area. Guide Rail Repairs Monday on Parkway North to Cause Delays

Single-lane closures will occur, weather permitting, in several spots on I-279.

Monday motorists might find a slowdown in their commute if they travel I-279/Parkway North. PennDOT District 11 announced that crews would be repairing guide rails from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in several locations on the interstate. Inbound restrictions will begin at 10 a.m. Travelers can expect intermittent, short-term single-lane closures between the East Street (Exit 2) and the I-79 interchanges, a PennDOT press release stated. All exits and ramps will remain open. The prime contractor for the repairs is Penn Line Services Inc. PennDOT advises motorists to use caution and slow down when traveling through the area.

Look for Short-Term Lane Closures on Northbound I-79 Through Christmas Eve

Crews will work on highway from I-279 split to Cranberry interchange.

Work continues on northbound I-79 and that means short-term lane closures through next week from the I-279 split to the Cranberry interchange, PennDOT District 11 announced. Weather permitting, crews will install cable median guide rail from Exit 72 [I-279 split] to Exit 76. Intermittent northbound left-lane closures will occur daily next week, Tuesday through Friday, Dec. 20-24, according to PennDOt. No weekend work or restrictions are planned. The work is part of a $10 million project that includes numerous improvements on several I-79 bridges. All ramps and exits will remain open at this time. I-279 Bridge Inspection Could Slow Traffic Tuesday

One lane to be closed southbound on I-279.

Traffic on southbound I-279 probably will move a little slower Tuesday as crews conduct bridge inspection activities, PennDOT District 11 announced. One lane will be closed from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Parkway North/I-279 approaching the off-ramp to northbound Route 65/Ohio River Boulevard in the City of Pittsburgh, PennDOT said. Crews from SAI Consulting Engineers will conduct bridge inspection activities, weather permitting. Motorists are advised to use caution and expect changing traffic patterns when traveling through the area. Weather permitting, crews from Michael Facchiano Contracting Inc. of Pittsburgh will inspect the bridges that carry I-79 over I-279. Restrictions will occur from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays through Aug. 31. One lane will be closed at a time and both directions and roadways will not be restricted simultaneously. Cranberry Couple, Baby, Heading Home after I-279 Delivery

Little Isabella Richards was born on the side of the state highway Saturday.

With their tiny new addition in tow, a Cranberry couple is heading home today after a labor and delivery that was anything but typical. On Saturday, Matt Richards helped his wife, Concetta, give birth to little Isabella on the side of Interstate 279 near the Camp Horne Road exit. The couple had been on the way to West Penn Hospital in Bloomfield, when Concetta, who was in the throes of labor pains, told her husband she wasn’t going to make it the rest of the way. He thought she was just being dramatic. She wasn’t. As Richards pulled to the side of the road, Concetta’s water broke. Traveling I-279 on Wednesday night? Give yourself extra time. Single-lane closures will occur on I-279 (Parkway North) in both directions between the Camp Horne Road (Exit 8) and I-79 interchanges from 7 p.m. Wednesday to 7 a.m. Thursday, according to PennDOT District 11. Crews will be replacing pavement markings, a slow-moving operation that will require short-term lane closures, PennDOT said.
