Watch 12-12-12 Concert Live on Patch

The concert will benefit Hurricane Sandy victims, via the Robin Hood Foundation.

Some of the biggest names in music take the stage at Madison Square Garden for the live 12-12-12 concert for Sandy relief. While thousands of people fill the arena, billions are watching live on a variety of screens worldwide.  The concert is streaming live on television networks, movie theater screens and on the Internet, including right here on Patch. The pre-event coverage begins at 4:00 p.m. EST and the concert is scheduled to kick off at 7:30 p.m. The all-star lineup includes Bon Jovi, Eric Clapton, Dave Grohl, Billy Joel, Alicia Keys, Chris Martin, Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, Eddie Vedder, Roger Waters, Kanye West, The Who, and Paul McCartney, with other artists to be announced. Some of the biggest names in music will play at a benefit concert on Wednesday. All proceeds will go to Hurricane Sandy victims, via the Robin Hood Foundation.

Huge names in music are lending their talents to Hurricane Sandy relief efforts at the “12-12-12” concert Wednesday. Every penny sold from ticket sales will go directly to Sandy victims through the Robin Hood Relief Fund, which provides material, money and aid to local organizations that are serving families and individuals in the regions hardest hit by the storm, including over 200 Patch towns in New Jersey, Connecticut and Long Island. Heidi Klum to Aid Hurricane Sandy Victims on Sunday, Dec. 2

The supermodel mom will help distribute supplies in partnership with the American Red Cross and Patch.

Supermodel Heidi Klum is lending her efforts to affected victims and families of Superstorm Sandy by distributing supplies, food, and water Sunday afternoon at the American Red Cross Nassau Chapter in Mineola, NY, in partnership with the American Red Cross, AOL and Patch. After, Klum will go to Lindenhurst, NY, for the tree lighting with Mayor Thomas Brennan. Klum's efforts are a reminder that these communities still need help rebuilding. Seneca Valley Donating Athletic Gear to Superstorm Sandy Victims

The district is giving athletic shoes and warm up suits that are no longer used by students to a hard hit community in New Jersey.

Seneca Valley is giving away its cleats for a good cause. At Monday’s school board meeting, officials unanimously approving donating athletic shoes and other sports apparel no longer used by Seneca Valley students to a community in Ocean City, N.J. devastated by Superstorm Sandy. “The students there lost everything,” said Seneca Valley athletic director Heather Lewis. Lewis said the WPIAL approached her and other school districts in the area about supplying the hard-hit community with sports equipment. There will be four drop-off points for sports apparel around the region, including at North Allegheny High School, she said. Hi Mary, I've added some updates to the article that may answer your questions. According to the district, these items are not extras lying around, but gently-worn apparel (some suits with worn knees, etc.) that have been in storage for a number of years. Most students buy their own warm up suits, but the district did have these items in storage in case someone needed to borrow them. There will …   more ›

Patch employees help out in storm-ravaged communities, and you can, too

It's been said it's far better to have a neighbor who's near than a brother who's far away, but in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, Americans across the nation have proven to be the best neighbors and the strongest of families. This past weekend, AOL and Patch employees took an opportunity to pitch in by packing two tractor trailers worth of food, water and supplies in Dulles, VA, and Baltimore. PennDOT Extends Expiration Dates for Licenses, Registrations, More

The measure comes in response to Hurricane Sandy.

Because of the damaging effects of Hurricane Sandy across the state, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Secretary Barry J. Schoch has authorized an extension of the expiration dates for Pennsylvania driver's licenses, identification cards and vehicle inspections/registrations. Oct. 31 expiration dates for vehicle registrations and safety and emissions inspections have been extended until Nov. 15, as have expiration dates between Oct. 26 and Nov. 15 for driver's licenses and identification cards. Seneca Valley Cancels Two-Hour Delay for Wednesday

Students will report to school at the regular time.

Seneca Valley students will be back in the classrooms at the regular time tomorrow. On Tuesday, the district canceled the two-hour delay put in place for Wednesday, Oct. 21. Seneca Valley had canceled Tuesday’s classes and instituted Wednesday’s delay because of concerns over the effects of Superstorm Sandy in the area. However, after spending Tuesday assessing the district’s nine facilities—and resolving some storm-related issues—officials decided to rescind Wednesday’s delay. “Fortunately, the impact of the Super Storm wasn’t as severe as predicted, and we feel prepared to operate tomorrow on a regular schedule,” an announcement on the district website said. Five Die in Pennsylvania as a Result of Hurricane Sandy

No storm-related deaths have been reported in Western Pennsylvania as of Tuesday.

As the rains and winds subside for much of the state today, five deaths have been reported across Pennsylvania as a result of the storm—all but one related to falling trees or branches,  No storm-related deaths have been reported as of Tuesday in Allegheny County, according to the county Medical Examiner's Office. The first reported Sandy-related death occurred Sunday in Lancaster County, according to a 6ABC report. An elderly man was trimming a tree in Rapho Township in preparation for the storm when a limb broke and he fell to the ground and suffered multiple injuries, according to that report. In Northampton County, a youth also died when the all-terrain vehicle he was riding hit a fallen tree, according to the Associated Press. On …
