Crews Battle Fire at Century-Old Pine Township Home

Cranberry, Adams Area and Zelienople firefighters assisted at the scene.

Several fire companies battled a blaze on Old State Road Monday afternoon that heavily damaged a Pine Township home. Wexford Volunteer Fire Company Chief Tim Flaherty said crews were called to the home located near Wexford Bayne Road at about 2:15 p.m. for reports of a fire in the laundry room on the first floor of the home. The blaze quickly spread through the building. Flames could be seen shooting from the roof of the three-story home, which was built more than a century ago. "The house is pretty old, so there were a lot of void spaces in attic and the roof structure," the chief said of why the blaze spread so quickly. Flaherty said one of the owners was at home when the fire started. She and two dogs escaped unharmed. Firefighters …

New Year’s Day Fire Ravages Adams Township Home

No one is injured in the blaze.

A couple and their pets escaped unharmed after a fire ravaged their Adams Township home on New Year’s Day. Adams Area Fire Chief Bill Hayes said crews were called to the home on Lakeland Drive at about noon Tuesday. When firefighters arrived on the scene there was heavy fire in the area of the home’s attached garage, he said. “When we got here, it was going pretty good and it extended into the bedroom above it,” Hayes said. The chief did not have a damage estimate for the home, which is uninhabitable. The homeowners are staying at a home in the area, Hayes said. The Red Cross also has been notified of the situation. “The homeowners have told me they have housing in the local area,” he said. Hayes said the fire appears accidental. The fire …

Updated: Early-Morning Fire Heavily Damages Cranberry Home

No one is injured in the fire on Anna Marie Drive.

No one was injured in a fire that heavily damaged a Cranberry Township home at about 1 a.m. Sunday morning. Fire Chief Brian Kovac said the fire at 441 Anna Marie Drive started at the rear of the residence. "The fire started on the back deck from a recreational fire and the propane from the gas grill was blowing fire into the house, allowing the fire to spread quickly," he said. Firefighters used a hose positioned at the top of the company’s tower ladder truck to help douse the flames once the fire extended into the roof of the building. Kovac said volunteers had the fire under control in about 35 minutes. The homeowners made it from building safely, he said.  Neighbors Dan and Dorsi Pugh, who own the home next door, said Alex and Lisa …
