The monument overlooks a new fishing lake at Graham Park.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new monument that will mark 100 years of Scouting in America will take place at 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 7 at Graham Park in Cranberry. The venue also was designed as a place where Boy and Girl Scouts can meet, plan, and carry out community service activities, according to the township. I'm very disappointed that the time picked to do this was Sunday at 11:00. Part of scouting is the importance of God in our lives. So why pick a time when most Protestant churches are in sessions and scouts have to choose between Sunday service and the dedication?? A bad call on the part of the planners of this dedication. If you are going to do it on a Sunday do it later in the day AFTER the …   more ›

Meghan Klingenberg's Soccer Camp in Cranberry Set for July

Camp will take place at Graham Park.

Not many female soccer stars come out of the Pittsburgh area like they do from New Jersey, New York and California. She is holding a soccer camp for girls, ages 11 to 18, from July 6 to 8 at Dick's Sportsplex at Graham Park, 260 Graham Park Drive in Cranberry Township. "I want to bring a high-level environment to Pittsburgh," Klingenberg said. She is bringing in pro goalie Ashlyn Harris; strength and conditioning coach Erin Mikula; and sports psychology Dr. Tiffany R. Jones to run sessions at the camp. Bear Spotted in Cranberry

The bear has been sighted in several neighborhoods, according to police.

A bear—or possibly bears—is making its way around Cranberry Township. Cranberry Police Sgt. Chuck Mascellino said bear sightings were reported this week in the Woodbine neighborhood off Powell Road and in Graham Park. On Thursday, a grassy area in front of the Traco building in the Cranberry Business Park on Unionville Road was taped off. Signs posted in the area cautioned people a bear had been spotted in the area. The owners of the Seven Fields Veterinary Hospital on Route 228 also saw a bear about 50 yards from the building (Check out the photos of it on the right).  Mascellino said the sightings could be of the same animal. “They cover a pretty wide area,” he said of bears. Cranberry resident Leigh Hall, who was walking her usual two-…

PNC Bank also has donated $15,000 to the endowment’s Community Project of the Year fund. Tom Coyle, who died in 2004, spent his life involved with the Scouts. During the late 1930s, he became an Eagle Scout. Following his return from military service in World War II, the former Marine made a career of Scouting and served as executive director of the Moraine Trails Council of the Boy Scouts in Butler County between 1962 and 1984. Group needs about $40,000 to complete the community project.

The Cranberry Township Community Chest has passed the $100,000 mark for cash and in-kind donations for construction of the Scouting Centennial Plaza at Graham Park. The plaza is the organization's 2011 Community Project of the Year.   According to a statement from CTCC, a recent donation from Neva McClymonds in memory of her husband, John McClymonds —who died last year — helped the organization reach the $100,000 milestone. "Our family feels it will be a lasting memory," said Neva McClymonds, who moved to Cranberry with her husband in 1974. "We have seen a lot of positive changes to Cranberry and it is fitting that this memorial will be in Graham Park where many of John's grandchildren will play."   Cranberry Township Board of Supervisors …

Cranberry Makes Moves to Refinance More Debt

Refinancing two bonds could lead to $450,000 worth of savings for the township. Cranberry also refinanced two bonds last September.

Taking advantage of current low interest rates, Cranberry Township once again is moving forward with plans to refinance its debts. Cranberry officials on Thursday authorized the township solicitor to work with PNC Capital Markets LLC and Dinsmore & Shohl LLP to begin the process of refinancing two sets of township bonds totaling about $12 million. Included in that is a $9.9 million bond the township took out in 2008 for the construction of Graham Park. The current interest rate for that loan is 3.87 percent. The other bond is a $1.1 million loan taken out in 2003 for expanding the public safety area inside the municipal building. The interest rate on that loan is 4.25 percent. Michael Zubasic, a bond advisor with PNC, said refinancing …
