Last-Minute Gift Ideas: For the College Students Who Can't Make Up Their Minds

Most college students are in recovery mode from finals week and have left few hints about what they'd like for Christmas. This list might help.

I asked my son Sam, a sophomore at the University of Pittsburgh, to come up with some last minute gift ideas for college students. Below are his suggestions. Being a second-year college student, I found that more practical gifts had many benefits to them, especially as I got older. The easiest way to find good gift ideas for your college student is to think of items that you are certain they will use. Today, the 12th day of Christmas, it’s Mars Beads in Mars. Located in the Brickyard Plaza off Route 228, Mars Beads allows customers to design and create their own jewelry. The shop offers, beads, supplies, classes and bead parties, including “Ladies Night Out” parties. Throughout December, Mars Beads held Santa’s Workshops, where kids could make their own Christmas jewelry for loved ones. The shop will be closed from Dec. 25 through Jan. 1 for the holidays. Today, the eighth day of Christmas, it's Wunderbar Coffee House in Harmony, a cozy place to relax between all that holiday shopping. Husband-and-wife team Roc and Vicky Dornbrook opened Wunderbar inside the Center of Harmony on Mercer Street in 2012. Sisters Bonnie McGinnis Vello, Sharon McGinnis Young and Noreen McGinnis Campbell run the family-owned grocery store, which has several locations in the Pittsburgh area.
