Seneca Valley Teacher Charged with DUI Waives Preliminary Hearing

Leo Stefanacci nearly drowned after his car plunged into the Connoquenessing Creek.

Seneca Valley teacher Henry “Leo” Stefanacci waived a preliminary hearing Tuesday before District Justice Wayne Seibel in Evans City. Stefanacci, 48, of Zelienople, is charged with driving under the influence and careless driving after a near fatal plunge into the Connoquenessing Creek. A popular learning support teacher at Seneca Valley Middle School, Stefanacci was driving on Halstead Boulevard in Zelienople March 3 when he skidded off the road. His car landed upside down in the nearby creek. Firefighters trained in water rescue pulled him from the vehicle after four teens driving on the road noticed a car overturned in the water and dialed 9-1-1. He was taken by medical helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh in critical condition…

If you insist on driving after a few drinks to celebrate St. Patrick's Day, here's what you should know about how alcohol affects your system—and your criminal record.

Do you know how many drinks you can have before you're in danger of getting a drunken driving violation?  Officers in the Cranberry area and state police are always on the lookout for drunk drivers, particularly over the St. Patrick's Day weekend. When police pull drivers over for suspected drunken driving, officers ask them to perform field sobriety tests and to take a breath test to measure Blood Alcohol Content. A BAC test measures the percentage of alcohol present in a person's bloodstream. Pennsylvania's legal limit is 0.08. According to the Virginia Tech Alcohol Abuse Prevention website, every 40 minutes, 0.01 percent of alcohol leaves your system.  Check out the charts in the media portion of this article to see what your limit is. …

The following people were charged and waived their scheduled Aug.17 preliminary hearings before District Judge David Kovach in Cranberry. Justin Mark Glasgow, 21, of Sunnydale Drive, Cranberry, was charged with simple assault, making terroristic threats and harassment. According to the criminal complaint filed by Cranberry Township police, officers were dispatched to Sunnydale Drive at about 1 a.m. Aug. 13 after it was reported Glasgow assaulted his father during a dispute. Glasgow also shoved his mother and threatened kill her, according to the complaint.   Assault Donald Scott Burke, 39, of Norberry Court, Cranberry, was charged with simple assault, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Defendants Arrested in Cranberry Drug Sweep to Stand Trial

The Butler County District Attorney’s Drug Task Force conducted a sweep in June that led to 16 arrests.

Several people charged in a Butler County District Attorney’s Drug Task Force sweep in Cranberry that resulted in 16 arrests will stand trial on drug charges. Eric Joseph Avondo, 44, of Knollwood Drive, Allison Park, Michael Scott Russi, 26, of West Circle Drive, Harmony, and Devin Finley, 22, of Terrace Drive, McCandless, will be formally arraigned Sept. 2 in the Butler County Court of Common Pleas. The defendants waived their July 27 preliminary hearings before District Justice David Kovach in Cranberry. The drug sweep, which began at 6 a.m. June 27 and involved officers from Cranberry, Adams and Jackson townships and Zelienople borough, targeted drug dealers in and around the Cranberry Township area, according to Cranberry police. …

The following people were charged and waived their scheduled July 6 preliminary hearings before District Judge David Kovach in Cranberry. Matthew Daniel Anderson, 23, of Upper Service Road, Hookstown, was charged with four counts of possession of drugs with the intent to deliver, two counts of criminal use of a communications facility and two counts of intentional possession of a controlled substance. On May 12, 2009, a confidential informant working with Cranberry Township police and the Butler County Drug Task Force arranged to purchase marijuana from Anderson through cell phone and text communication, according to the criminal complaint filed by Cranberry Township police. The following people were charged and waived their scheduled June 1 and June 8 preliminary hearings before District Judge David Kovach in Cranberry. Two men from Ohio will be formally arraigned July 10 at the Butler County Court of Common Pleas after Cranberry Township Police said they attempted to steal items from the employee area inside the Panera Bread along Route 19. Leon Green, 54, of Rathburn Court, Macedonia, was charged with two counts of criminal attempt at theft and one count of defiant trespass. Eric Von Cammon 52, of East 74th Street, Cleveland, was charged with conspiracy to commit theft, criminal attempt at theft and defiant trespass. District Court: Man Charged with Having Marijuana Mailed to His Home

A Cranberry man remains in Butler County Jail Thursday on charges he sent $10,000 cash in the mail in exchange for more than two pounds of marijuana. Joseph J. Jetkiewicz, Jr., 54, of Lincolnshire Drive, Cranberry, was charged with drug possession with intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and conspiracy to possess drugs with an intent to deliver. According to the criminal complaint filed by state police, a United States postal inspector on Feb. 22 intercepted a suspicious package from California addressed to Jetkiewicz’s home. After opening the package, investigators discovered 2 pounds, 11 ounces of marijuana, the complaint said. The drugs were repackaged and a controlled delivery took …

The following people were charged and waived their scheduled March. 2 preliminary hearings before District Judge David Kovach in Cranberry. A Callery man charged with stealing copper from homes and businesses will be formally arraigned on April 10. Nathaniel Joseph Baxter, 20, of Kline Avenue, was charged with burglary, theft, criminal mischief, receiving stolen property, conspiracy to commit burglary and conspiracy to commit theft. Cranberry Township police reported they began to work with other law enforcement agencies in Butler County in 2011 to investigate thefts from across the area.
