Cranberry Reviewing Plans for New Retail Development, Restaurant

Cranberry Crossroads West is proposed to be located next to the new Dick’s Sporting Goods store.

Dick’s Sporting Goods, La-Z-Boy Furniture, Noodles & Company, GetGo and more all have opened within the last few months at the Cranberry Crossroads development on Route 228, but construction near Cranberry’s latest shopping plaza isn’t done yet. Cranberry planning officials are reviewing plans submitted by ECHO Realty, the Pittsburgh-based real estate company that developed the complex, for Cranberry Crossroads West. Plans for the anticipated space include 12,106 square feet of retail space and a 5,500 square foot restaurant on 4.4 acres of property located adjacent to the Cranberry Crossroads shopping complex. The proposed multi-tenant retail space would abut the La-Z-Boy furniture store, according to Ron Henshaw, Cranberry’s director of …

Here is a thought, how about nothing! No more shops or restaurants or anything else. I think we have too much of everything here, for a place that 40 years ago had nothing but farms and wide open space.   more ›

Field & Stream Store Coming to Former Dick’s Sporting Goods Location in Cranberry

The outdoors store is a new concept for the sporting goods retailer.

Since Dick’s Sporting Goods closed its location in the Cranberry Square complex off Route 19 in October and moved to a new, two-story building in the Cranberry Crossroads shopping center on Route 228, there have been numerous rumors regarding what would—and should—occupy the former space, including a L.A. Fitness.  Well, the rumors can safely be laid to rest.  Dick’s Sporting Goods has submitted a building permit application to renovate the vacated space into a new sporting goods concept store called Field & Stream, according to Cranberry Township’s business hub. The new store’s target audience is outdoor lovers. The store will provide an expanded selection of hunting, fishing, hiking and camping equipment from what is currently available …

Countdown to Cranberry: The Top 10 Stories of 2012

Cranberry Patch takes a look at the stories that defined the community this year.

10. New North Catholic High School Construction Gets Underway In June, Bishop David Zubik blessed the site of the new Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic High School along Route 228 in Cranberry during a groundbreaking ceremony. From there, it was full speed ahead on construction. In December, the bishop returned to the area for a "topping out" ceremony as the last beam was hoisted onto the building's steel skeleton. The school is the first the Pittsburgh Diocese has built in 45 years. “It’s really a dream come true,” Zubik said. The diocese decided to close the school’s building in Pittsburgh's Troy Hill, where it has been located for more than 70 years, and move programs to Cranberry in response to population growth and shifts in the North …

One story that is missing here is Sara Reedy suing Cranberry over the atrocious handling of her case, and after years of battling the court system and a crooked judge, finally being awarded the very well deserved $1.5 million. Too bad her attorneys got almost half of it.   more ›

Walmart, Dick’s Suspend Sale of Certain Semi-Automatic Rifles—What Do You Think?

In wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary mass shooting, Dick's Sporting Goods also has removed all guns from the store closest to Newtown, CT.

In wake of the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary, two major retailers are pulling the plug on sales of certain semi-automatic weapons nationwide.  Dick’s Sporting Goods, one of the largest sporting goods retailers in the world, has suspended sales of some semi-automatic rifles from all stores. The company, which is headquartered in Moon Township, also has removed all guns from its chain closest to Newtown, CT. In a statement, the store said it ordered the move out of respect for the victims and families of Newtown. Friday’s shooting left 20 children, all between the ages of 6 and 7, and six adults dead. “We are extremely saddened by the unspeakable tragedy that occurred last week in Newtown, CT, and our hearts go out to the victims …

Susan, I am not being sarcastic. That is what I believe. The ironic thing is that the young man who shot his mother did so with a weapon she purchased for her own safety. The odds are high that your own gun is more likely to be used on you, rather than you using it for self defense. I, personally, do not want to kill anyone nor kill an animal, nor do I want a weapon turned on me. And, to really …   more ›

Visions for Vacancy: What Should Move into the Former Dick’s Sporting Goods?

The sporting goods store has moved to a new location in the Cranberry Crossroads. What would you like to see happen to its former building?

The big business news in October was the opening of the new Dick’s Sporting Goods in the Cranberry Crossroads retail complex along Route 228. The standalone venue features two floors and an expanded selection of merchandise. But what about the store’s former location in the Cranberry Square Mall off Route 19? There have been rumors of an LA Fitness moving into the building, as well as talk of an outdoors store occupying the space. According to Dick’s Sporting Goods officials, nothing is in place for the former location—yet. Pat Wolf, regional vice-president of Dick’s Sporting Goods, said the building would remain in the company. A future use for it still is to be determined, he said. “We’re not getting rid of it,” he said. In the meantime…

Although the store will hold its official grand opening Friday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony—plus visits from local professional athletes throughout the three-day weekend celebration—a soft opening took place Tuesday. The event was intended for VIPs and corporate employees, but Antle said they didn’t turn away any customers curious about the store. “It’s been awesome so far,” said fellow store manager Dan Fiegel. Cranberry area residents agreed. Joe Sanislo, a senior at Seneca Valley High School, and Grant Wehr, a student at …
