Just in time for the start of the Halloween season, Comtra Theatre in Cranberry is holding auditions for its ‘spooktacular’ new play, Varney the Vampire—also known as The Feast of Blood. The show runs from Oct. 19 through Nov. 3. Males and females age 16 and older are needed for the play. The show is described as a “wild and clever spoof is based on a melodramatic novel attributed to Thomas Prest, the creator of Sweeney Todd. In 1900 weary vampire Sir Francis Varney shows up at an inn in Italy. He plans to visit a haunted grotto and ask forgiveness from a lost love whose ghost is doomed to roam the landscape wearing a thin veil over her face. Toto, we're not in Cranberry anymore. Comtra Theatre on Route 19 will take guests to Oz this weekend when the all-volunteer company kicks off its production of The Wizard of Oz. Based on the classic The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum, the musical comedy follows Dorothy on her adventures to Emerald City to meet the great and powerful Oz. Directed and choreographed by Robert B. Hockenberry, The Wizard of Oz will be performed at 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays through Aug. 27. Tickets are $15 for all ages. Comtra accepts cash only. There is also a FREE Children's Christmas Event at Crossroads Church, 709 Thomson Park Drive in Cranberry Twp, from 1pm - 4pm.
