Throughout December, Cranberry Patch will profile holiday happenings at local churches.
The community room at Cranberry Community United Presbyterian Church is starting to fill up with toys, including Barbie dolls, trucks, crayons and action figures. This is the week the good people of the church are shopping for people they don't know -- and will likely never meet. The church began December with dozens of names taken from a Giving Tree. After services, church members selected a paper star bearing the name and the wish list of an area child or adult in need. By the weekend, the kind shoppers will return with the gifts to the church for distribution. So far, more than 200 names have been taken, but a few wishlists remain and are available for anyone --church member or not--who would like to help. Members plan to gather and …

Members of the Cranberry Community United Presbyterian Church skipped the Steelers game and went caroling
Forget football, members of the Cranberry Community United Presbyterian Church in Cranberry had other things to do Sunday evening than worry about the outcome of the Steelers/Jets match-up -- like sing their hearts out. Yesterday, just after the skies turned dark, members of the church on Rochester Road -- including teens -- set out to sing Christmas carols in the neighboring Bellevue Park plan of homes. Mindy Cable, the church director of music, said it was the first time she can remember parishioners venturing outside to sing. "And I've been here 21 years," she said.
