Northern Regional officers pose as customers interested in buying stolen construction tools in order to arrest man who later admitted to burglaries in Cranberry, McCandless, Hampton and Pittsburgh.
Northern Regional police are proving you can find just about anything on Craigslist -- even burglary suspects. Chief T. Robert Amman said officers from the department used the classified advertisement website to track down a Pittsburgh man suspected of stealing power tools from businesses across the North Hills. “It was good work done by them,” Amman said. “They were checking Craigslist and they found some matches on the tools taken.” Jeremy Lee Caskey, 31, of McKees Rocks, is charged with theft, receiving stolen property, burglary and criminal mischief in the incidents. When Brian Flesher met with police at the beginning of December, he told them he wanted to get everything out in the open so he could begin to get help for his drug addiction, according to a criminal complaint. "Everything" included burglaries at homes and a business in McCandless, Franklin Park, Ross, Pine, and Ohio townships, court documents state. The 26-year-old Pittsburgh man now sits in the Allegheny County Jail, unable to post bail, facing a multitude of burglary, theft, receiving stolen property and criminal conspiracy charges. The cause and manner of death for a 20-year-old Richland man who was awaiting trial on multiple charges will not be determined for months, according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's office. Stephen Hudec died Friday morning, just two days after waiving his preliminary hearing on 31 counts that included burglary; theft; loitering and prowling at night; receiving stolen property; and conspiracy. He was charged in a series of crimes in the Pine-Richland area that occurred from July through October. The Medical Examiner's Office confirms the death of Stephen Paul Hudec, 20, who on Wednesday waived his right to a preliminary hearing.
A 20-year-old Richland man, who was recently charged and held for court in a string of burglaries, has died. The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's office confirmed that Stephen Paul Hudec died at 11:42 a.m. Friday. The cause and manner of death have not been determined. Hudec was charged in a series of crimes in the Pine-Richland area from July through October. Investigators accused him of breaking into homes and cars to steal thousands of dollars worth of electronics, a gun, cash and other items to support his drug addiction, according to court documents. Matthew Lohr shuffled into the magistrate's courtroom Wednesday wearing the gray striped prison uniform issued by Butler County Prison, his ankles and wrists cuffed. The 29-year-old Mars man waived his preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge William K. Wagner on three felony charges of burglarizing a Pine Township home. Artine Shirvani is accused a burglarizing homes in Cranberry and Economy.
A Cranberry man remains in custody today after police said he burglarized a home Friday in Cranberry Township. Sgt. Chuck Mascellino said Artine Shirvani, 25, of Woodhollow Drive also is a suspect in half a dozen daylight burglaries across the township in the past several weeks, including in the Cranberry West, Creekwood and Crossings neighborhoods. Shirvani is charged with burglary, theft, receiving stolen property and criminal use of communications facility in the Aug. 12 burglary of the home on North Boundary Drive.
