January was a rough month for Carey Checkan’s friends and loved ones. On January 11, Checkan’s friend Bob Gaurrich, the owner of Bob’s Trucks and Auto Repair, was shot to death at his garage on Route 68 in Forward Township just outside Evans City. “He was loving, caring and outgoing,” Checkan said of Gaurrich, who died of a single gunshot wound to the chest. “He would never say no to anybody. He would find a way to get it done for you or help you out.” The murder is still under investigation by state police. No arrests have been made. Less than two weeks after Gaurrich’s death, his mother, Sharon Gaurrich, died following a four-year battle with cancer, Checkan said. State police at Butler have released photos of a Winchester .30-30 rifle similar to one missing from the Forward Township garage where owner Robert Gaurrich was found shot to death Friday night. Troopers said the rifle, similar to a Canadian Centennial made in 1967 was owned by Gaurrich and was known to be at Bob’s Truck & Auto Repair Service on Evans City Road prior to the 45-year-old Evan City man’s death. Police could not find the rifle during their investigation of the building. Whether the weapon was used to kill Gaurrich is not known at this time. State police at Butler are asking for the public’s help after Evans City resident Robert Gaurrich was shot to death at his auto repair shop over the weekend. Troopers said Gaurrich, 45, died of a single gunshot wound to the chest sometime between 4 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. Friday. An acquaintance discovered his body late Friday evening at Bob's Trucks & Auto Repair on Evans City Road in Forward Township, just outside Evans City. State police spokesman Trooper Dan Kesten said the friend became worried about Gaurrich after he was unable to get in contact with him Friday.
