After being spotted at several more dining establishments, the bear appears to have developed a “taste” for the township.
The Cranberry bear is continuing his culinary tour of the township—and even getting caffeinated. Public Safety director Jeff Schueler said the bear was spotted in the parking lot of the Starbucks on Freedom Road Thursday and also outside the Sherwood Oaks Retirement Community off Rochester Road Friday. “We’re worried he’s Dumpster diving,” he said. Schueler said the bear likely is the same 200-pound black bear that climbed a tree in the Buffalo Wild Wings parking lot along Route 19 in Cranberry Dec. 27. After spending close to two hours in the tree, his movements monitored by police, the bear eventually got down and ambled across Route 19, disappearing behind the Burger King. Before crossing the road to get to the fast food restaurant, the…

The bear already has been spotted at Buffalo Wild Wings and Burger King.
When it comes to choosing between burgers and wings, the bear spotted in Cranberry prefers both. The 200-pound black bear made local news headlines after climbing a tree outside Buffalo Wild Wings along Route 19 in Cranberry Thursday evening and staying there for close to two hours. Perhaps attracted by the scent of frying food, the bear later ambled across the highway (taking care to look both ways first) to Burger King before disappearing into the woods near Interstate 79. Maybe he wanted fries with that? Now, there are plenty of restaurants located along Route 228 near Interstate 79. Just for fun, which restaurant do you think the Cranberry bear should visit next? Maybe he could scoop up some global cuisine at the new Noodles & Company…

The 200-pound black bear is last spotted heading towards the woods.
Why did a 200-pound black bear cross busy Route 19 in Cranberry? To get to the Burger King, of course. After spending close to two hours in a tree outside the Buffalo Wild Wings Thursday evening, Cranberry Police said the bear ambled across Route 19 and went behind the fast-food restaurant. "He stopped and looked and went across the road," Public Safety Director Jeff Schueler The bear was last spotted heading towards the woods near Interstate 79, Schueler said. Police were called to the Buffalo Wild Wings at about 9:30 p.m. after someone spotted the bear in the parking lot, he said. When officers arrived at the restaurant, the bear already was in the tree. Officers monitored the bear’s movements until it climbed down from the branches at …

If I were a bear, I would waste no time at the other places and head over to the Giant Eagle deli for one of their hoagies. The portions are truly bear-sized, and and it would be a great last meal before curling up to hibernate.   more ›
