Owned by Kwang-suk Choi, the studio currently is located on Rowan Road.
The owners of the Pittsburgh Ballet House on Rowan Road are planning to pick up their barres and slippers and move to a new location less than a mile away. At Monday’s planning commission meeting, officials OK’d plans for the ballet school, founded by instructor Kwang-suk Choi, to move into the former Safari Sam’s building at the intersection of Rowan Road and Route 19. Allison DeBona stars in the CW's summer series, elevating ballet's return to mainstream pop culture.
Ballet is having a moment. A moment that ballerina Allison DeBona hopes is here to stay. The camera captures ballet’s gritty realism and its beauty under the hot lights, as well as the characters' quest for perfection, competitiveness and intensity of rehearsal—a true labor of love. DeBona grew up in New Castle and at 12 years old moved to the Steel City with her family. She began to train at Pittsburgh Youth Ballet Company & School, located in Peters Township, under the instruction of owner Jean Gedeon—a notable name in the industry. The dancer took some …

Ballet will be the only dance program that Seneca Valley Cyber & Arts: The Academy of Choice, the district’s new cyber and performing arts school, will offer this year. The dance program is expected to expand in the 2012-13 school year to include additional disciplines, including modern and jazz. Each girl who auditioned Monday will be placed in an intermediate or advanced ballet group. Linda Andreassi, the district’s director of communications, said the dance classes will …
