BRGR, Jergel's Named Finalists in 'Pittsburgh's Best Burger' Contest

Voting in the WPXI contest is open until Tuesday, March 26.

Who has the best burger in the Pittsburgh area? Well, it might just be BRGR. The Cranberry Township restaurant is one of nine finalists in the running for WPXI's "Pittsburgh's Best Burgers" Contest. Online voting opened to the public on Monday and will close at 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 26. Viewers can vote for their favorite burger before the top three winners are revealed the week of March 25. Winners are determined based on a combination of votes and taste test scores, according to WPXI.  WXPI invited the top finalists—chosen in February—to submit a signature burger, and a panel of celebrity judges, including personalities from WPXI, KISS FM, Pittsburgh Zoo and The ScareHouse judged them on taste, appearance and texture.  Other nearby …

Restaurant Spotlight: BRGR

Lots of Cranberry area restaurants, shops and other great places can be found in our directory. Review them here!

This week's restaurant spotlight is on BRGR, located at 20111 Route 19 in the Cranberry Mall. Opened in July 2011 in the former Bar Louie, which also briefly saw life as Social House, BRGR is the creation of owner and head chef Brian Pekarcik. The Cranberry location is the second gourmet BRGR joint for Pekarcik and his business partner Richard Stern, who also is part owner of Willow in Ohio Township. The men also own the trendy Spoon restaurant in the East Liberty neighborhood of Pittsburgh. BRGR is best known for its variety of gourmet burgers, including The Button Buster, a patty topped with braised short ribs, onion rings, white cheddar and béarnaise aioli, and its series of spiked milkshakes. Check out our Patch "Bites Nearby" review …

I like BRGR, even though I've never had a burger there because I don't eat them. But they have other things on the menu that are good; great salads with chicken added. But my favorite is the pickle fries! so good!   more ›

Coming Soon: Where's Your Favorite ...?

Here's your chance to recommend the best places in town to get your favorite things.

We know you have them in your brain: those favorite shops you frequent again and again. The restaurants you recommend to your friends. The stores with great customer service or unusual offerings. Well, here's your chance to tell the world. Beginning Monday, we'll be asking for your recommendation on your favorite places in town for everything from burgers to car repair. With your help, we'll put a list together of nominees. Then you can 'vote' for your favorite by leaving a review on the business's directory listing on Cranberry Patch Places. The Patch local editor will determine the winner based in large part on the reviews. Be nice: we'll consider only positive reviews in making our decision. Patch Poll: Vote for the Best Appetizers in the Cranberry Area

It's a head-to-head battle as Patch voters tell us what restaurant is best at starting things off.

So maybe it's not ladylike for little finger foods to cage-fight each other to see who's the best, but sometimes a crab puff just wants to feel strong and powerful. That's why we're staging this food fight between our nominees for best appetizers in Cranberry. In the running are Houlihans, BRGR and Siba. We sincerely hope nobody stoops to using cocktail skewers as weapons. Sharpen your voting pointers now, and vote.

Hi Trina, The way Food Fight works is we first ask readers to suggest their favorite places (which, in this case, we did last week. Here's the link! http://patch.com/A-pJvf). The results then go head-to-head in our Patch Poll, which is what you see this week. These are the only three suggestions we got (including ones on Facebook) for this week's Food Fight poll on appetizers. I'd be happy to add…   more ›

Bites Nearby: BRGR Brings Famous Burgers, Milkshakes to Cranberry

New restaurant is in Cranberry Mall.

Overview: BRGR is a new burger restaurant in the lower level of the Cranberry Mall at Route 19 and Freedom Road. BRGR is known for its gourmet burgers and fun milkshake flavors – with and without alcohol. Decor: BRGR is a contemporary bar/restaurant. The bar is smack dab in the middle of the restaurant, with big TVs overhead on four sides. There are tables with couches, booths and regular tables, and on warm nights, the garage-door-style windows open so folks can sit on the outdoor patio. We were there on a Friday night and had a 10-minute wait, but it looked like we timed it right because others were waiting before us and looked a bit impatient. We got there about 8. It is noisy there – if you want a quiet, romantic night out, you are …

Gourmet 'BRGR' Joint To Open Next Week in Cranberry

These aren't your father's burgers ... or your mother's.

There are people who have fun in the kitchen. Then there are people who have fun in Brian Pekarcik’s kitchen. Having a good time in that kitchen might mean adding a new dish to one of Pekarcik’s highly inventive burger menus. “A lot of burgers we currently have on the menu are burgers the cooks in the kitchen just kind of had fun messing around with and putting together,” Pekarcik said.  Look for a few of those whimsical burger concepts -- including The Button Buster, a patty topped with braised short ribs, onion rings, white cheddar and béarnaise aioli -- among the mouthwatering, scale-tipping, don’t-wear-your-skinny-jeans items on the menu when BRGR opens in this month in Cranberry. The gourmet burger joint's tentatively is set to open …
