I agree with all the feelings stated above, but Gail is right. Until we know more about the whole case can we begin to understand the trauma, guilt and punishment that is appropriate. Still, the injuries on both of the children are there. -- If I am reading this right the two children were adopted in March of this year, which tells me that the stress for both the parents and the children involved…   more ›

How awful. These parents should not be parents to any children.....adopted or biological. To starve and abuse innocent children in unforgivable! They need to rot in a jail cell, naked, with no food, and no toilet facilities to pay for their crime. AS a parent I can't imagine doing that to any child! They should not be able to see their own child, as the children can testify what went on in the …   more ›

The Murder of Christine Guenther: Unsolved but Not Forgotten

Thirty years after the death of the 15-year-old Peters resident, the mourning continues, as do the efforts to solve the crime.

A woman sits in a crowded chapel in the company of family, friends and strangers. She glances at the floor and notices an autumn leaf. As the congregation progresses past her to receive the sacrament, their shuffling feet stir the leaf, causing it to spin and dance. At the conclusion of communion, the leaf rests so that its tip points at the woman, and she is reminded of another autumn leaf she saw three decades ago — a leaf pursed between the lips of her teenage daughter, whose body was discovered buried under foliage. That woman is Carmen Mader, formerly Guenther. Her daughter’s name was Christine, and this year marks the 30th anniversary of Christine’s unsolved murder. Fifteen-year-old Christine disappeared Oct. 26, 1981, from the bus …
