This is the third bomb threat at the school since February.
Mars Area High School in Adams Township was evacuated Tuesday morning after a bomb threat. Adams Township Police Chief Bill Westerman said the threat was discovered inside a boys bathroom at the school at about 11 a.m. All students, faculty and staff were sent across Route 228 to Mars Area Middle School while bomb sniffing dogs from Allegheny County and a private firm hired by the district searched the school, Westerman said. The high school students were housed in the middle school gym before being transported by school buses back to the high school. Students were dismissed at the regular time from the high school. There will be increased security at Mars Area High School when students head back to class Tuesday after Monday's bomb scare. The high school on Route 228 was evacuated Monday afternoon after the district learned of a bomb threat to the building. “Upon notification of the threat, the district immediately contacted Adams Township Police Department and is taking the necessary steps to ensure the safety of our students, faculty and staff members,” Superintendent Dr. William Pettigrew said in a note to parents on the district's website. Mars Superintendent sends home letter informing parents of the incident at the district's primary center. Police are reviewing camera footage.
Mars Area Superintendent Dr. William Pettigrew said the district is investigating a report that a stranger was walking on the grounds at Mars Area Primary Center along Route 228 in Adams Township Tuesday morning. In letter sent to parents later that day, Pettigrew said administrators have contacted Adams Township Police about the incident. “Mars Area School District strives to remain proactive in the protection of its students and employees,” Pettigrew wrote. “The district will keep you informed of any additional information regarding this incident, as it becomes available.” As of Wednesday, Adams police still are investigating the incident. No one else is injured after the driver crashes into three parked cars before hitting the restaurant.
A man is in critical condition Friday after losing control of the vehicle he was driving and slamming into Jimmy’s Strip District Grille in Adams Township. Adams Area Fire District Captain Talo Capuzzi said it is unknown if the driver, whose name was not released, suffered a medical issue before veering off Mars Valencia Road or if his condition is the result of the crash. Adams Area Police said the car, a four-door Ford Taurus, traveled across the front lawn of a home on Mars Valencia Road at about 11 a.m. before entering the parking lot of the building and hitting three parked cars. The still-moving vehicle also knocked over several pillars in front of the restaurant before hitting the building. It did not enter into the restaurant. …
