Contestants Continue to Sing Their Hearts Out in Kean Quest Competition

Jaira Burns of Vandergrift wins Audience Choice Award in Vocal Round 5.

Aspiring singers continue to vie for the top spots in the 2012 Kean Quest Talent Search, formerly called Kean Idol. Semi-finalists chosen in the first five rounds will compete in Sunday's semi-final competition at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. at the Kean Theatre on the St. Barnabas campus in Richland Township. The finals are scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, March 30. Winners will be presented with the title of Audience Choice and Judges' Choice.  Tickets are available at the door for $10; proceeds benefit the St. Barnabas Free Care Fund. Jaira Burns, 15, of Vandergrift, won the Audience Choice Award by playing guitar and singing “Man Down” by Rhianna. Cranberry Girl Wins Audience Choice Award in Kean Quest's First Vocal Round

Twelve contestants move on to the semi-finalist round.

A 12-year-old Cranberry Township girl won the Audience Choice Award on Sunday at the first vocal round of the 2012 Kean Quest Talent Search. Nicolina Marra performed Hurt, a Christina Aguilera hit, at the contest formerly known as Kean Idol. She is a seventh-grader at St. Gregory School in Zelienople who enjoys musical theater, basketball and playing the piano.  St. Barnabas spokesman Jim Roddey was the emcee for the contest at the Kean Theatre on the St. Barnabas campus. Marra performed with 22 acts in the first round of the fundraising competition, which continues through March 30. Based on scores from a panel of judges, Marra and 11 others in the vocal competition will move on to the semi-final competition March 18. The semi-finalists …
