Slideshow: Memorial Day Ceremony Honors Those Who Served

Cranberry's Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #897 hosts the annual event.

A full crowd turned out Sunday as Cranberry's Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #897 held its annual Memorial Day celebration at North Boundary Park.

Chairman Phil Stebler acted as master of ceremonies, introducing retired Marine Capt. Umberto Cerminara, who spoke to the audience of his service and battle experiences. The Ohio Valley Marine Corps League Detachment #882 also led a color guard salute.

student Kate Ahlgren sang the National Anthem, and veterans presented six memorial wreaths, accompanied by Seneca Valley High School trumpet players Matt Graf and Josh Selling. The wreaths represented the U.S. Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard and the Merchant Marine.

White doves also were released in remembrance of American prisoners of war and soldiers who remain missing in action.

Alex D. Barna gave the closing prayer and the Marine Corps League Detachment gave a rifle salute.
