Photo Gallery: Cranberry Sunrise Rotary Zombie 5K Run at North Boundary Park

About 260 people run in the Halloween-themed event.

The morning fog lent an appropriately spooky atmosphere Sunday to the Cranberry Sunrise Rotary Zombie 5K and 1 Mile Candy Corn Family Fun Run and Walk at .

Sponsored by the Cranberry Township Sunrise Rotary Club, the 5K race kicked off at 9 a.m., followed by the 1-mile fun run at 10:15 a.m. With Halloween approaching, many of the 260 participants wore costumes along with their running shoes.

Entry fees were $20 per person or $50 for a family of four. Proceeds benefit the Rotary's community projects fund. Medals and prizes were given to those who placed in the race in the different age groups and categories.

There also were chances to win gift certificates from local businesses and plenty of candy for everyone. Participants received bright orange T-shirts bearing the name of the race.

Although he and his brood didn’t run, Mars resident Billy Frazir said he brought his costumed family, including two little dinosaurs and a zombie, to the race just for the atmosphere.

“It seemed like a fun thing to do on Sunday morning,” he said.

McCandless resident Steve Strelick won the overall 5K title with a time of 20:30. An eighth-grade science teacher at , Strelick also is a track coach with the district.

His wife, Christina Strelick, a new mom who said she is just getting back into running, was the first woman to cross the finish line, with a time of about 23:40.
