No Need for New Orleans: Friends of the Zelie Park Plan Mardi Gras Mixer

Do you have your beads ready? The nonprofit Friends of the Zelienople-Harmony Park will celebrate Fat Tuesday this weekend with Les Amis Du Park Ball.

Cranberry area residents in the mood for some Fat Tuesday sun won’t need to travel to New Orleans to celebrate the occasion.

The nonprofit Friends of the Zelienople-Harmony Park has planned an adults-only Mardi Gras party from 7-11 p.m. Saturday at the newly opened The Center of Harmony on Mercer Street in Harmony.

Called Les Amis Du Parc Ball, the event will feature music, beverages and plenty of Mardi Gras food, including dirty rice with andouille sausage, Creole-fried chicken and Creole potatoes. There will be a King Cake, a tradition in the New Orleans celebration. Whoever finds the figurine inside the cake wins a prize.

Attendees are encouraged to wear masks and costumes to the event. A king and queen of the ball will be chosen during the celebration.

A hand-crafted crate filled with goodies will be raffled off for $5 per ticket at the gathering. There also will be a raffle for a free pool membership for $5 per ticket as well as beads and other prizes.
