Ghouls on the March: Zelienople Parade Gets Off to a Snowy Start

Flakes and flurries don't put a damper on Zelienople's annual Halloween parade.

Despite a snowy start, there were garden gnomes, witches, princesses and even Santa Claus and his family at the annual Halloween parade down Zelienople’s Main Street on Saturday.

The Zelienople Lions Club has sponsored the parade for at least 55 years, although some of club members later joked it has been more like “forever.”

As the participants paraded down Main Street, representatives from the Lions Club, the borough, the American Legion and the Zelienople Historical Society judged the costumes.

Cash prizes were handed out separately for group and individual costumes. There also were prizes for most the beautiful, funniest and scariest costumes.

After some unexpected October weather left about an inch on snow on the ground Saturday morning, Lions Club member Diane White, chairwoman of this year’s parade, said she was pleased with the turnout.

“For the weather, this was great,” she said.
