Lights! Camera! Cranberry! The Oscars are on Sunday, but before you settle in to root for your favorite picture, Patch has some award-winning ideas for your weekend.

1. Beauty and the Beast: The Musical

When/Where: 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday March 2-3 at Catch a matinee performance at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Why Go: Did you know Disney’s Beauty and the Beast was the first animated film to be nominated for an Academy Award. Catch Seneca Valley’s musical take on the classic Disney picture this weekend. As Lumiere the singing candlestick might say, be their guest.

2. Ellen Cherry at Bottlebrush Gallery and Shop

When/Where: 7 p.m. Friday at the on Main Street in Harmony.

Why Go: Emmy-nominated singer/songwriter Ellen Cherry will kick off the first “Harmony in the House” concert for 2012. Based in Baltimore, Cherry has licensed her music to the Oxygen Network, MTV and SOAPnet. Her opening act is Pittsburgh singer Sue Gartland. The event is BYOB.

Price: $10

When/Where: and St. Kilian in Cranberry and in Zelienople are among the churches holding a fish fry on Friday. There also is a fish fry at the Zelienople American Legion Hall to benefit the Zelienople Memorial Skate Park, which will honor the memory of teen Zelienople firefighters

Why Go: Um, because it’s delicious! Many people will abstain from eating meat products on Fridays in Lent—or through the entire season, which ends April 7, the Saturday before Easter.

4. Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Tampa Bay Lightening

When/Where: 1 p.m. Saturday at the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh

Why Go: Get in on Malkin-mania as the Penquins share the ice with the Tampa Bay Lightening. The Penguins will play the Columbus Blue Jackets at 1 p.m. Sunday, also at the Consol Energy Center.

5. Highmark Presents Lights! Glamour! Action!

When/Where: 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Heinz Field.

Why Go: You don’t need to be in Los Angeles to receive the celebrity treatment. Support the Pittsburgh Film Office by attending its glam annual fundraiser at Heinz Field. Movie fans will walk the red carpet, and the Academy Awards will be shown live on a big screen.
