Candy Land Gets Real with Crossroads Church in Cranberry

Hundreds of families toured the life-sized version of the classic children's game on Saturday.

Characters from the classic children’s game Candy Land came to life on Saturday at the Crossroads Church in Cranberry—and even gave visitors an Easter lesson.

“It’s better than Disney,” said Rachelle Arnold, who played Miss Mint at the event.

Church member Tracy Meanor said hundreds of families toured the life-sized Candy Land inside the church, which featured giant lollypops, a gumdrop mountain, Queen Frostine’s frozen kingdom and other sets that volunteers built.

As they traveled the rainbow road, visitors interacted with church members dressed up as Candy Land characters.

“Each character takes a different part of the Easter story and shares it with the kids,” said church pastor Mike Arnold.

Meanor helped write the dialogue between the characters and the "tour guides,” who led families through the fantasy world. This is the fifth time the church has held the Candy Land event, which Meanor said attracts people from across the region.

“It’s very popular with families, especially with younger kids who play the game at home,” she said.

After their tour through Candy Land—which included sweets that the characters gave them—the children settled in for a gospel lesson that a church member taught.

There also was a station where youngsters decorated gingerbread cookies. Before they left the church, each child was given a toothbrush.
